The Chemours Company, headquartered in Wilmington, DE, has a current opportunity for an Accounts Payable (AP) Leader within the global procurement function. The desired location for this role is the Chemours Asturias office in Spain but other global locations will be considered. The role is global in nature and reports into the procurement center of excellence leadership. The Chemours Procurement function is made up of over 100 employees responsible for $3.5B+ in spend in all categories including services, raw materials, MRO, real estate, transportation, and Capital. 

The ideal candidate for this role has a proven track record running an efficient and effective accounts payable function, is a highly motivated, experienced leader possessing strong business and accounting acumen, a passion for continuous improvement, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, digital savviness, and ability to develop and foster strong relationships with key stakeholders. 

Execution of the accounts payable process is outsourced to a service provider and this role will have overall accountability for operations, service delivery as well as managing a retained team of accounts payable sub-process owners focused on continuous improvement in partnership with the Procurement Operations Leader to ensure the performance of the end-to-end source to pay (S2P) process.

This role oversees the timely and accurate execution of the Company’s payment process and partners with the Finance function to oversee the monthly close processes, and expense analysis. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance to accounting policy, effective controls, process efficiency, and accuracy.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Accountable for high performance of accounts payable outsourced service delivery and ongoing continuous improvement

  • Develop and maintain proactive and transparent relationships with outsourced service providers leadership that is both collaborative and drives accountability

  • Provide leadership and mentorship of the retained accounts payable sub-process owners (invoice processing, payment, travel and expense) and specialists to drive a culture of customer service, continuous improvement, and vigorous application of internal controls

  • Ensure SLA’s and KPI’s accurately reflect the performance of the process and outsource provider service that drives the right behaviors and actions

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with supplier governance leadership, procurement leadership, and finance leadership

  • Continually improve the accounts payable control environment ensuring compliance with regulations, accounting policy, internal control objectives, and SOX controls in partnership with Procurement’s Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance function

  • Ensure fraud mitigation plans and controls are in place and operating effectively

  • Accountable for accuracy and timeliness of payables forecast in partnership with the Treasury team

  • Accountable for closing accounts payable ledger each month in partnership with Finance, including but not limited to the review of outstanding payments, ensuring all transactions are properly recorded, accrual of invoices by major general ledger account, and review the monthly reconciliation of subsidiary accounts to the general ledger

  • Act as the leadership liaison between the company and external auditors concerning the accounts payable related requests

  • Remain informed of current and proposed accounting standards/practices and assess the impact of accounting changes on financial statements, procedures, and internal controls

  • Guide sub-process owners on the development, prioritization, and delivery of the accounts payable continuous improvement roadmap aligned with SLA/KPI targets, source to pay strategy, and organizational goals

  • Respond and drive resolution of complex escalations that cannot be resolved by the outsourced provider and sub-process owners coordinating cross-functional resolution teams and managing internal customers and supplier expectations


To be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • Masters or bachelor’s degree in Accounting

  • CPA, Chartered Accountant or similar qualification preferred 

  • 7+ years’ experience in accounting for accounts payable or accounts receivable in a multi-national company

  • 3+ years’ experience leading service delivery and working in a shared service center accounts payable environment which includes outsourced service providers or retained shared service

  • 3+ years’ experience leadership experience and managing people and team

  • Experience in the manufacturing sector with working knowledge of operations/plant functions, processes, and pain points 

  • Experience working with generally accepted accounting principles and accounting software, preferably SAP in a corporate accounting environment

  • Experience implementing/enhancing business processes, tools, and technologies 

  • Knowledge of six sigma, agile, lean, and other business process improvement methodologies 

  • Possesses a passion for continuous improvement and aptitude for technology and systems

  • Strong problem-solving skills and passion to understand and resolve root cause issues

  • Customer-centered and service-oriented mindset and attitude

  • Exhibits strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship management abilities
