About us

• Mental Health, Justice Health, Alcohol and Drug Services provide a range of health services from prevention and treatment through to recovery and maintenance at a number of locations and in varied environments for people suffering from mental health issues.
• Six community health centres: providing a range of general and specialist health services to people of all ages.
• Four Walk-in Centres: which provide free treatment for minor illness and injury.
• A range of community based health services including early childhood services, youth and women’s health, dental health, mental health and alcohol and drug services.
CHS is a partner in teaching with the Australian National University, the University of Canberra and the Australian Catholic University.
The Division of Critical Care provides comprehensive services to patients requiring critical care treatments and includes the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Medical Emergency Team, Early Recognition of the Deteriorating Patient program, Trauma Services and the Capital Region Retrieval Service.
Overview of the work area and position
Canberra Hospital’s Emergency Department is the major tertiary referral and trauma centre for the ACT and surrounding region of NSW. The ED is a 73 bed unit with both acute and non-acute services. ED is patient centred department and provides care for adults and children of all ages, and specialised assessment and treatment for all illnesses and injuries.
The Administration Manager role reports directly to the Operations Manager, Division of Critical Care. Under limited direction, the Emergency Department Administration Manager is responsible for the human resource management (staffing, rostering), financial administration (budgets, salaries and operational), performance management (key performance indicators), access and quality improvement activities for the administrative services within the Emergency Department.

• Business Administration or Human Resource training or desire to complete
• Knowledge and experience with HP Records Manager (aka, TRIM).
• Knowledge and experience utilising Health IT systems (such as EDIS, ACTPAS and the Clinical Portal).
• Current Driver’s license.
Prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:
• Undergo a pre-employment National Police check.

Duties

• Supervise and provide leadership to a team of administrative staff to achieve high quality patient focus within the Emergency Department;
• Problem solve and contribute to proactive change management across the Emergency Department as a member of the Emergency Department Leadership team.
• Under general direction of the Operations Manager, you are responsible for human resource management (Management of a 24-7 rotating roster, Performance planning and Management, Training and development, recruitment and staff selection, staff leave management) of Administration in the Emergency Department.
• Under general direction of the Operations Manager, you are responsible for fiscal matters (accounts payable and receivable, processing of timesheets, management of salary reports, approval of overtime, approval of stationery and assisting with budget delivery and savings).
• Leading structured projects in the development and implementation of policies, standard operating procedures and operational manuals.
• Under general direction of Operations Manager, coordinate and respond to requests for information.
• Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the section

1. Experience in the supervision and determination of work priorities for an administrative unit with an ability to build a positive and transparent team culture in a fast-paced working environment.
2. Experience in human resource management and financial management of an administrative unit with the ability to coordinate a number of ongoing projects.
3. Demonstrated well-developed written and oral communication skills with an emphasis on liaison and negotiation.
4. Demonstrated experience in the use of Microsoft Office suite and knowledge of patient information systems with an ability to convey knowledge to others.
5. Demonstrates a commitment to work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience and displays behaviour consistent with Canberra Health Services’ values of Care, Excellence, Collaboration and Integrity.
