FICC SMM is a cross-asset systematic market making business covering FX, commodities, interest rates, and credit. As an automated trading business, SMM manages the financial as well as operational risks of this business.

Team members combine their mathematical, programming and market expertise to generate strategies, build infrastructure, and drive P&L, business growth. The desk looks for individuals with strong programming experience, a mathematical mindset, and who are motivated to learn and get hands on experience in a systematic trading environment in a role that blends trading and engineering. The individual will have an initial focus in the interest rate space on products such as Bonds and IRS, we welcome strong candidates from other backgrounds.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Experience full life-cycle exposure: research / modelling, implementation / testing, support / maintenance
  • Use statistical techniques to conceive, design, analyse and implement electronic trading signals and strategies
  • Analysis of our franchise pricing and hedging including analysis of large data sets to drive strategic improvements to our electronic trading.
  • Develop automated trading algorithms / work-flow automation for the firm and its clients, taking an active role in the shift from voice to electronic trading
  • Implement software using GS-proprietary technologies and Java

Preferred Qualifications and Experiences

  • Maths: proven ability to analyze large data and draw useful conclusions. Understanding of time series analysis, statistics, data mining and numerical techniques to generate predictive signal and opportunistic strategies
  • Technology: experience building software systems, implementing fundamental algorithms and working with different programming languages - C++ / Java and Python
  • Finance: understanding of market dynamics and conventions, and of different products' behaviors and specifications
  • Using quantitative and technological techniques to solve complex business problems
  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in a STEM area from a leading academic institution
  • Experience in trading and finance preferred but not necessary
  • Strong communications skill
