Special Situations Group (SSG) specializes in multi-strategy thematic investing and lending across the capital structure, including private and public equity, venture capital (VC), structured finance, renewable energy, leveraged, high yield and distressed credits, non-performing loans (NPL) and real estate, across all industries and sectors.

SSG is the primary center for Goldman Sachs’ balance sheet financing and investing activity. The Group lends and invests Goldman Sachs’ capital directly to and in companies of all sizes, from small, growth stage companies to large, market leaders.

Based in Sydney, the successful applicant will be a member of the Sydney-based team, evaluating investments across Australia and New Zealand. The role will require the applicant to apply a fundamental corporate valuation skill set to help analyze, conduct and manage due diligence and execute transactions within a wide range of investment strategies. Applicants should be self-starters who can work independently with minimum direct supervision. The applicant must be a strong team player and communicator, with the ability to work directly with third parties including consultants, legal advisors, external operating partners and other market counterparties.

Key Responsibilities:
+ Analyze potential public and private investment opportunities
+ Perform due diligence and valuation work across industries and asset classes
+ Work closely with senior members of the team in making investment decisions
+ Interface with external parties, including the coordination of 3rdparty advisers and operating partners, as necessary
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Basic Qualifications:
+ 2-6 years of relevant experience in areas such as private equity (or other investing role), investment banking (ideally leveraged finance), or management consulting
+ Strong modelling (high proficiency in Excel) and accounting skills
+ Corporate valuation skills with regards to various types of assets, securities or instruments such as equities, loans and bonds
+ Ability to multi-task and be flexible to requests and deadlines
+ Strong attention to detail and superior communication skills
