Job Purpose

The purpose of the Android Developer is to build and maintain a useful, usable and engaging user experiences for the Flight Centre App, in line with best practice mobile development lifecycle and architecture.

About the Opportunity

This is a role in the Flight Centre Mobile team and is dedicated to the planning and development of the Android Flight Centre App (Australia, New Zealand and Canada). We collaborate internationally with our North America App team to leverage their expertise building travel apps. This role will be responsible for contributing to the native mobile app for Flight Centre brand across Australia/NZ/Canada.

The multidisciplinary team is 1 year old and consistently delivering a high performing quality product.  We require someone to join our team to continue to build and collaborate on this great product. You will be required to contribute to the design, maintenance and continually improve the governance of the development lifecycle and architecture of the mobile suite in Australia/NZ.

You will need a strong understanding or experience of:

  • Java and Kotlin
  • End-to-end mobile testing
  • Web based technologies and cloud technology (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and APIs is required
  • CI/CD for mobile apps
  • Applying Design Systems
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills

Accountabilities

Your key responsibilities will include the following:

  • Providing technical development for Android mobile application including working towards the analysis, design and development of re-usable components / functionality / style guide
  • Delivering high quality product development with an agile/lean approach
  • Ensuring that all development work undertaken is properly documented and maintainable
  • Collaborate with other development areas to create and maintain API’s to work with the Flight Centre App
  • Maintaining awareness of best practice in the industry for mobile development
  • Contributing to development guild as required

Knowledge / Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with Android SDK
  • Familiarity with RESTful API’s to connect to other applications and back end services
  • Understanding of Google's Android design principles and interface guidelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional teams
  • Thorough understanding of digital technologies and trends

Desirable

  • Good understanding of online technologies (e.g. HTML, CSS, Javascript, AJAX)
  • Built and maintained mobile apps within a commercial environment
  • Experience with implementing native tracking of customers through Firebase/Google Analytics
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
