The Department
The Operations department supports Investment Management and Distribution by ensuring that outsourced fund administration, transfer agency and middle office services operate efficiently and that in\-house services are of the highest quality\. The department consists of a number of functional teams based in London, Denver, Singapore and Australia\.
The main purpose of the Fund Valuations team is to support JHI business and to facilitate further growth by making sure the outsourced fund accounting function operates efficiently and that the Net Asset Value \(NAV\) and price production functions are delivered to a high standard\.
Whilst the fund accounting and NAV production services have been outsourced to Third Party Administrators \(TPAs\), the Fund Valuations team retains the responsibility for these services, in particular for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of fund NAV and price information to external and internal clients\.
The team is responsible for NAV oversight of the JHI collective investment schemes which are domiciled in Europe, including UK OEICs, Luxembourg SICAVs, Irish UCITS and Hedge funds\.
Overview of the role
This role is an Investment Operations Technician Apprenticeship which is a work based qualification combining practical training in a job and study\. The apprenticeship is an 18 month fixed term contract during which you will complete the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment \(CISI\) Investment Operations Certificate\. Full on the job training is provided by Janus Henderson, with a full apprenticeship package delivered by Fitch Learning in the workplace\. You will be required to assemble evidence that demonstrates learning and development activities and receive ongoing support from your assessor who will meet with you every 6 weeks\.
Duties and Responsibilities
You will:
+ Support the business by overseeing and controlling the fund services and data delivered by TPAs, principally overseeing the following for timeliness and accuracy
NAV / price production
Price publication / distribution
Fund Accounting data for publication
Other fund return validation
+ Build and maintain strong working relationships with the TPAs to ensure delivery of a high\-quality NAV service
+ Build and maintain internal relationships with Distribution, Client Services and Product so that Fund Valuations is first point of contact for all queries
+ Validate exceptions highlighted by the NAV oversight model
+ Oversee Periodic Fund Accounting data delivery \(for example Month end NAVs, Portfolio Turnover and Yields\)
+ Oversee the performance fee calculations administered by the TPAs

+ A sound understanding of all operational functions and how Janus Henderson oversees the outsourcing of its administration
+ Relationship management skills through frequent interaction with internal departments and external suppliers
