Role Description

The Animation Art Director is responsible for developing high-quality, dynamic animations that present accurate scientific information in a clear and engaging manner. The Art Director is involved throughout the lifecycle of a project, creating the visual style and collaborating with the production team to ensure it is executed to the highest level possible. S/he also play a central role in interactive experiences such as VR/AR projects, medical gaming and booth installations.

Key Responsibilities 

Responsible for overseeing the end-to-end production of high-quality, medical animations, including:

  • Establishing the overall artistic vision for animation and interactive projects, then collaborating with multi-functional production teams to ensure they are executed to the highest quality.
  • Conducting in-depth scientific research and working with medical writers and storyboard artists to craft a strong and didactic narrative that exceeds the client’s goals.
  • Excellent production knowledge at every stage of the animation’s lifespan.
  • Driving continuous improvement for the animation department, evolving processes, toolsets and R&D initiatives to ensure the team remains at the forefront.
  • Contributing creative solutions for pitches and proposals, providing estimates to support business development initiatives.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and inspiring a small team of animators.

Capability Requirements – education, skills & experience

  • Passionate about people. Has solid experience leading, managing and building teams, loves mentoring and coaching direct reports. Collaborates well with team members across all departments.
  • Possesses excellent presentation and communication skills. Loves to debate scientific content and discuss artistic direction with clients and internal teams.
  • Creative and forward-thinking. Previous experience as an art director or creative director for a team of experienced animators.
  • Love of science and discovery a must. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in science a benefit.
  • Jack of all trades: excellent competency in all stages of 2D and 3D animation pipelines, including advanced understanding of Autodesk Maya or 3DS Max, and compositing in Adobe After Effects.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Passionate, hard-working and out-spoken. Thrives on challenges and pushing boundaries.
