The Department of Psychology at Jackson State University invites applications for its Assistant Professor position.

Minimum Required Education

Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program.

Applicants who have earned a degree in PhD in Social Psychology will also be considered.

Minimum Required Experience

Must have adequate training and experience in teaching and mentoring graduate and undergraduate courses.

Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications

  • Must be licensed or license-eligible according to the criteria established by the Mississippi Board of Psychology.

  • Licensed eligible applicants are expected to obtain a license to practice psychology within 2 years or less from the date of hire.

  • Must demonstrate the capacity to sustain a productive research agenda that integrates science with practice.

  • Must be prepared to provide clinical supervision to doctoral students.

  • Must be qualified to teach within their scope of training and to teach research core courses.

  • Requires a productive research agenda that will enable the candidate to meet the criteria for promotion and tenure at the appropriate time in the Department of Psychology.

  • High levels of research productivity are required.

  • A clear commitment to excellence in teaching and advisement, departmental, college, and university service.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • The teaching load is 3.3 (graduate courses) or 4.4 ( undergraduate courses).

  • In addition to teaching, faculty members are required to serve on dissertation and second year paper committees.

  • Mentor both undergraduate and graduate students in their research laboratory.

  • Provide academic advisement.

  • Faculty are required to pursue research finding through grant development.

  • A willingness to develop and teach on-line courses is strongly desired.

  • Courses taught by the Social Psychologist may include Social and Cognitive Bases of Behavior, Advanced Statistics I, Research Methods, and Multivariate Statistics.

  • Undergraduate courses taught are Experimental Psychology, Statistics I and II, Learning Theories, and General Psychology; however, the clinical/counseling psychologist will also have clinical supervision duties, have a choice of clinical psychology core courses and will be regarded as core Clinical Faculty.

  • The Clinical Psychologist may have clinical supervision duties and a choice of clinical psychology core courses.
