Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University seeks one or more candidates for a tenure-track faculty position in astrophysics, condensed matter, or nuclear theory at the rank of assistant professor.
We are seeking candidates at the forefront of their respective fields who can envision fruitful connections and collaborations with theoretical efforts in other fields. In addition, we seek a balanced theoretical effort that focuses on the frontiers shared by multiple sub-disciplines with a goal to enhance the research efforts individually within the astrophysics, condensed matter and nuclear theory groups, while fostering synergies and promoting collaborations between different research areas. The synergies envisioned could include shared challenges in analytical, computational or big data methods, and broad-based physical simulation techniques. It could also include shared theoretical frameworks such as, but not limited to, fundamental symmetries, phase transitions, topology, hydrodynamic theory, strongly interacting systems, nucleosynthesis, entanglement, or emergent phenomena.
In addition to an active research program, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching physics/astronomy courses, at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and is expected to participate in the academic life of the department.
Required Education and Experience
- Ph.D in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field.
Preferred Education and Experience
