Reporting to: Business Intelligence Team Leader

An opportunity has arisen within AIG Life’s Management Information team for a Business Intelligence Analyst.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely MI (based on business requirements) by using complex SQL queries, business analytic and advanced database tools to collect, manipulate and analyse data. As well as preparing reports using Microsoft’s BI stack, which may be in the form of Excel or Power BI graphs, charts and dashboards.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and have an analytical approach to problem solving coupled with the ability to identify and interpret patterns and trends, assess data quality and eliminate irrelevant data.

The successful candidate must also:

  • Quickly integrate with existing team.
  • Be able work in a wide variety of areas including developing and maintaining MI batch jobs (SQL Server Agent and VisualCron).
  • Develop and amend existing MI reporting in accordance with business requirements.
  • Field ad-hoc report requests and data enquiries from all areas of the business.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively about technical and non-technical subjects. It may also be necessary to communicate with external suppliers and/or partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of the long-term Business Intelligence strategy.
  • Work closely with all areas of the business to understand and document MI requirements.
  • Share daily/weekly/monthly support responsibilities, including:
    • Review and resolve Problem and Incident Management tickets created by 1st and 2nd line support.
    • Review, interpret and implement Change management tickets.
    • Create weekly/monthly manual reports.
    • Create monthly KPI reports for senior management and partnerships.
    • Review and resolve bugs logged in relation to our SQL Server data warehouse, and if necessary, involve 3rd parties to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Support both the IT Infrastructure and IT Development teams where changes to database objects are required, helping to define and deliver changes.
  • SQL monitoring and tuning.
  • Design, review, develop and implement Oracle and SQL Server database objects, models and designs.
  • Help support IT Application Support in identifying the business impact of major incidents.
  • Review data fix SQL created by Development teams.
  • Data reconciliation between source data and SQL Server data warehouse.
  • Create, deploy and manage SSIS solutions.
  • Conduct data warehouse unit testing and troubleshooting.
  • Manage and maintain dashboards and reports hosted on Microsoft SharePoint platform.

Technical Skills and Expertise:

  • Proven experience as a BI analyst/developer (industry experience preferred).
  • Experience extracting data using Oracle SQL Developer and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio is essential.
  • Experience using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Analysis Service (SSAS) and Integration Service (SSIS) very desirable.
  • Advanced data modelling skills essential (preferably in Microsoft BI stack).
