The COOP, Business Intelligence (BI) is our very own Abarcan mnemonic courier. Like Johnny Mnemonic, your role is to determine and implement the best technique for extracting data from a source system and moving it to the BI system. You will understand and implement a variety of diverse BI acquisition techniques while ensuring compliance with all standards. (Don’t worry your brain and data capacity shall not be compromised.) The mnemonic courier must also ensure that project deliverables are consistent with long-term infrastructure plans. Obviously, this role is an integral component of the organization's Business Intelligence department delivering BI through Intelligence and Informatics.
The fundamentals for the job…
Understand the data structure and meaning in both the source and the target BI systems. (Data can’t be unlocked without an encryption key, right?)
Apply business rules as transformations
Adapt ETL processes to accommodate changes in source systems and new business user requirements
Building and unit testing data transformation, source data transport, and population processes for environment
Assisting the BI Team in delivering information and analytic solutions to the company’s key stakeholders, including members of the various business units, internal/external providers, and internal staff. (Hence the use of “courier” as a proper title.)
Report/Query testing and development.
What you’re made of
The bold requirements…
Be an active student at least in third year and above enrolled in a Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
Must have taken and enjoyed the database class. (Did you smile remembering the class? Because that would be good.)
You should have previous knowledge of SQL Server, Database Design, T-SQL, and Stored Procedures. The more, the merrier.
You must have mastered the art of effective communication (read, speak, write, abbreviate, choose the right Emojis, proper use of Whatsapp stickers, and put together a decent Power Point, among other things...) in English and Spanish
Nice to have…
Knowledge of Business Intelligence designs and practices is a big plus. After all, you are supposed to be a specialist in the field.
Previous knowledge of the Healthcare industry will make your job easier so it’s a plus for you and not just for us.
That something extra we´d love to see…
Analytical: Perhaps we should include the word “over” in this description, because you basically over-analyze ever minute detail of absolutely everything to the point of exhaustion. You probably tried every option on that Black Mirror interactive movie on Netflix, then went back and did everything again, just to make sure you didn’t miss anything, and you loved every minute of it. In fact, you’d go for thirds. Your frequent overanalyzing is one of your trademarks and it helps you foresee things to your advantage.
Logical: You are on an eternal quest for reasons, causes, and effects. Understanding how things work is as necessary as the air you breathe. Your objectivity lets you think about all the factors that affect a situation. If things don’t make logical sense to you, then they must be nonsense.
System thinker: Like a string theorist, you believe there's a connection among all things. You know there’s no such thing as a coincidence because fate and karma are 100% real. Serendipity is one of your superpowers and you see the patterns everywhere.
Structured: Order and structure are a biological need to you. You can’t help organizing other people’s desks and we can safely assume your LEGOs are neatly stored by color and type and all hell will break loose if someone puts a piece in the wrong compartment. Relax. We won’t do that. In fact, could you come over and organize ours? We know your crazy organization makes everything more efficient.
Inquisitive: Curiosity killed the cat and lucky you that you have 9 lives and counting. You like to get to the bottom of things and turn them over. Learning is fun and should never stop.
The above description is not intended to limit the scope of the job or to exclude other duties not mentioned. It is absolutely not a final set of specifications for the position. It’s simply meant to give readers an idea of what the role entails.
