A Business System Analyst I is self-explanatory at face value: you’ll be responsible for analyzing business. Then the fun begins with a conjunction: …AND technical processes to define and develop new & improved business information processing systems. Translated, more or less, it means you will partake in the tasks of gathering requirements and quality testing during pre-implementation and prior to releasing new software and features. This is the kind of job enjoyed by those who like to get into the details of things and also, as should be obvious, analyze.
The fundamentals for the job…
You’ll coordinate with internal clients and technology teams to gather project requirements and system specifications such as program functions, output requirements, input data acquisition, and system techniques and control.
Because being of help is second nature to you, you’ll assist the Business System Analysts in defining requirements and business cases for the technological development of applications.
Continue to collaborate with the development team to prepare extensive detailed documentation of business rules and system requirements.
Analyze business requirements and technical processes to assess their needs and help identify a solution for process and/or system enhancements.
Participate during project and new client implementations to gather benefit rules and requirements and identify changes needed to be made in our platform to support client implementation.
Help execute cross-functional projects (because you can’t help wanting to participate in so many projects at once).
Support the technical team during development cycle (they’ll support you right back; we’re all very supportive here).
Create full documentation of actual and future company processes, departmental policies and procedures, and software application manuals.
Support QA in test plans and test scripts’ creation. Document and perform quality and integration tests to applications developed by the company to ensure the documented requirements and business needs are met.
Support users during new development implementation; provide user training and ongoing support.
What you’re made of
The bold requirements…
Bachelor’s Degree, plus 1-2 years of experience in Business/Systems Analysis or Software Development/Engineering (preferred). (In lieu of a degree, equivalent relevant experience may be considered.)
Computer proficient, you know how to use Microsoft Office products, and have plenty of Internet know-how (the obvious).
If you’re familiarized with the Healthcare, Pharmacy, and Pharmacy Benefit Management industries, Medicare Part D, and CMS regulations, that’s a great plus.
Superb critical thinking (as befits an Analyst!); you understand the concepts of planning and accountability.
You’re in your element within the Software Development and Debugging world.
You know how to bring the best out of others, and excel when working in teams.
You have a sharp customer service focus (so focused the rest of us are blurry in comparison). You desire to be challenged because it helps you grow and know how to keep up in a fast-paced environment.
You must be able to communicate effectively (read, write, speak, argue, dream and beyond) in English and Spanish.
That something extra we´d love to see…
Analytical: You value the power of context & enjoy examining the past. You get the present by analyzing (sometimes over-analyzing) events leading up to it. This methodology is super helpful, but can provoke analysis-fatigue in those within earshot. Good thing you’re aware of this.
Team player: You are detail-oriented to the nth degree, but you also manage to see the big picture. An easy to relate to individual who gets a deep satisfaction from working hard with others to achieve any goal.
Logical: You are relentless in the search for reasons and causes and effects. Unencumbered by excessive sentimentality, you are able to think about all the factors that might affect a situation.
Innovator: You constantly engender unexpected ideas; your factory of pure genius just doesn’t run out. Fascinated with possibilities you are, in turn, fascinating yourself. You plainly see or figure out connections between seemingly disparate phenomena à la A beautiful mind. It is a child’s game to you.
Fixer / Solution seeker: You are like an action figure brought to life; it’s hard for you to give up, even when it’s obvious you are barking up the wrong tree. You like to provide comprehensive solutions, considering both, internal and external needs; you follow the mantra of always being part of the solution.
The above description is not intended to limit the scope of the job or to exclude other duties not mentioned. It is absolutely not a final set of specifications for the position. It’s simply meant to give readers an idea of what the role entails.
