About the Unit

As part of the ongoing sustainability transformation of global food production, carbon optimization and climate action are strategic priorities for Yara. Optimizing farming can make a substantial contribution, addressing 25% of greenhouse gas emissions. In order to turn the potential of carbon sequestration in soils to a reality, and to reduce emissions at farm level, Yara is pursuing a fast-moving carbon innovation strategy.

As part of this, a new fast-growing Carbon Venture was launched in Yara, with the objective to turn the carbon potential at farm level into a sustainable growth business, while providing a new income stream to farmers worldwide. Our passion lies in building a portfolio of smart-carbon farming businesses across the world. As one of the early movers in this market, we are using our knowledge on carbon practices, our global presence, our digital and data capabilities, and our strong relationships with the food chain to pioneer an industry shaping business in this space.

Our key success factor is to quickly identify, validate and grow business opportunities that can make a difference at the farm. For this, we are looking for dynamic, passionate, and experienced entrepreneurs to quickly help us build the Carbon business, which we foresee to consist of start-up like businesses that should be run and nurtured from early seed phase to scale up. We are building a global portfolio of such businesses and hence look for entrepreneurs in all relevant agricultural markets globally. Given the special context of the Corona pandemic, we are open for different arrangements in terms of different geographies. The position reports directly into the Carbon team.

Responsibilities

• Launching, leading and growing a carbon business, addressing a regional market segment, with high speed from idea to seed-stage / proof-of-concept, to scale-up
• Innovating, testing and validating farmer value propositions with a substantial carbon improvement potential and sound business and commercial model for farmers, Yara, and potential partners involved
• Drive the commercial implementation and develop a partner and go-to-market model that will enable rapid scale-up
• Set priorities, targets, and manage resources in line with the business value drivers and steer the business to high value growth
• Leading a cross-functional, fast moving team with capabilities in commercial, technology, agronomy, and carbon scheme and verification
• Build the required verification alliances and protocols to meet the requirements of carbon businesses

Profile

• Experienced entrepreneur / founder / business or start-up leader with passion for driving game-changing, sustainable business innovation in food and agriculture, ideally with experience at the intersection of agriculture, carbon, sustainability, and technology
• Experience in building and scaling new businesses in a high-paced environment, operating locally in an international context, from seed through scale-up
• Ability to think strategically and to shape and build a market that does not yet exist
• comfortable working in a fast changing environment with many uncertainties
• Strong sales drive and ability to execute and drive operations in an agile, fast moving environment. Strong result orientation and drive, high proactiveness, forward thinking
• Curiosity and creativity, ability to learn and adapt in an agile way, and pursing the implementation of innovation also in the face of setbacks and challenges
• Strong people leadership, inter-personal and cross-cultural skills. Ability to excite, to motivate, and to build a high-performing global team. Strong ability to succeed through others
• Fluency in English to high standard. Mastery of local language a strong advantage to effectively operate in the local environment
