Position Summary
The Career Coach will assume career coaching functions for communities of students and recent alumni from the School of Business and Justice Studies, providing individualized and group support across the career development continuum. The Career Coach will work closely with faculty and staff to develop and execute career development workshops, events, and special projects, as well as advance the Center’s efforts and initiatives. By engaging with students in communities and more closely partnering with other student support services staff, students will receive timely, targeted support to assist them with career exploration, career planning, and support with transitioning into the professional setting. The incumbent will report to the Assistant Director of Career Development.

Major Responsibilities
A. Career Coaching
• Connect students with employers’ external job and internship opportunities that are consistent with students’ career goals and interests.
• Identify students suitable for employers’ opportunities through proactive outreach to students and faculty and prepare them for the application process.
• Help students develop and refine skills in résumé, cover letter, and application essay writing; online and in-person networking; interviewing; professional etiquette; and job search skills.
• Serve as a liaison and closely partner with other College staff, faculty, and student organizations to ensure the delivery of timely, targeted support to assist students with career exploration, planning, and successfully transitioning to next professional steps.
• Promote the career management system, UC Career Connect, for job and internship searching and event registration.
• Follow up with students/alumni after career coaching sessions to understand session outcomes and identify areas for ongoing support.
• Provide comprehensive career development and goal-setting support through individual delivery methods (appointments, e-mail, phone, etc.) and group-based career counseling, workshop facilitation, and the coordination of programs, events, and activities that are targeted for that community of students.
• Actively develop and utilize specialized knowledge of employment sectors, opportunities, and other industry-specific trends appropriate to the assigned school and student communities.
• Administer and interpret career inventories and assessments (Focus, personality type software).
• Work closely with the Campus Employment staff to connect students with campus-based job and internship opportunities.
• Engage in proactive outreach and marketing to encourage utilization of the Center’s resources and services.
• Ensure services provided are consistent with the Center’s goals and institutional efforts, including those on retention, completion, and educational quality.
• Track and report on student/alumni contacts and coaching appointments for data collection and student learning outcomes and satisfaction assessments.
B. Program/Project Support
• Closely collaborate with the Center’s Assistant Director of Career Development in developing major- and community-specific information on a range of career development topics for the creation of guides and materials and for classroom and workshop presentations.
• Provide support with event coordination and facilitation during the Job and Internship Fair, Volunteer Fair, Networking Nights, and all other Center programs and events.
• Represent The Center for Career and Professional Development during college-wide events, such as Orientation, Homecoming, and Office of Admissions open houses.
