The Indirect Services group in the Finance Services Division currently has an opening for a Category Buyer.   As a Category Buyer, you will assist our internal Business Unit customers with strategic sourcing, buying, and spend analytics for EAME and have a demonstrated working knowledge of the Indirect Services Category including IT, Engineering and Consulting professional services. 


Job Duties:  

Major Role

•To serve as the primary contact between Caterpillar and the supply base for global/regional initiatives, including filling the functional seat for commercial discussions/negotiations with suppliers, being the recognized expert for his or her assigned portion of the global category, supports development and execution of global category strategies, and   drives performance excellence in Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, and Management (QCLDM) through direct leverage with the supply base partnering with   Supplier Development Professional (SDP) personnel and Product/Facility Procurement organizations.

•This Supplier Lead role will help to manage the supplier relationship for that supplier’s location including but not limited to Supplier Relationship Mgmt., Supplier Performance Mgmt., Cost Mgmt., Risk Mgmt., and Category Network Mgmt.  

•This role is responsible and accountable for directing the development, and/or communication and implementation of, regional sourcing strategy for EAME.  

•Responsible for development, management and execution of the Regional category strategy managing policies, agreements, source catalogues, and service procurement programs.      

Leadership

•Provide leadership for strategic sourcing- qualified supply network, business continuity, supplier risk management – capacity & financial, logistics, contract management, supplier commercial negotiations, cost/spend management –supplier on boarding/off boarding, and resource management decisions.    

•Lead continuous improvement initiatives and purchasing new product introduction activities within Purchasing.  

•Demonstrate leadership in recognizing the potential for cost reductions, and quality improvement; as well as responsibility for soundness of business proposals and risk assessment.  

•Promote the highest level of professionalism and business ethics.

Legal

•Draft, negotiate, and execute contractual documents including but not limited to master service agreements, statements of work, service level agreements, and other ordering documents.

Strategy

•Lead strategic sourcing & supply base strategy development and subsequent execution for assigned IT, Engineering and Consulting category portfolio

Supplier Development

•Collaborate with Suppliers and Business Units to ensure continuous improvement with key suppliers.

•Build and foster mutually beneficial supplier relationships at all organizational levels.


   

REQUIREMENTS: 

Essential Experience & Qualifications:  

•Bachelor’s degree from a college or university in Business, IT or related field

•Significant relevant experience in procurement of IT, Engineering, Consulting or other Indirect products and services

•Previous category team and/or product team experience

•Basic understanding of business and strategy/planning and overall understanding of category management

•Those with a lesser or no qualification will be able to demonstrate significantly more relevant experience

Desirable Experience & Qualifications:

•Well-developed interpersonal skills are needed in dealing with sensitive issues, developing others, and reaching consensus on specific actions

•Self-starter, able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

•Demonstrated consulting and problem-solving skills

•Functional leadership with ability to direct teams, suppliers and customers to solutions

•Analytical, problem solving, and project leadership expertise

•Effective communicator, in written and oral form

•Finely honed negotiation skills, able to interpret, analyze and negotiate contractual cost element

•Maintain knowledge of current IT, Engineering and Consulting trends, vendor capabilities and changes within the category landscape for traditional and emerging solutions

•Manage and optimizing supplier performance including contract compliance, continuous improvement, innovations, and reduction in total cost of ownership
