Description
  MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
1 Technical/Functional                    
  • Can perform all responsibilities associated with Laboratory Shift Technician.
  • Perform advanced or non-routine testing associated with microbiology lab.
  • Develop and evaluate new or revised procedures using methodology and in-depth understanding of testing procedure.
  • Conduct calibrations and maintain records for the calibration program.
  • Provide general lab support by maintaining effective inventory control of lab equipment and consumable supplies and follow up on maintenance work orders.
  • Perform instrument troubleshooting and calibration.
  • Investigate and make recommendations with respect to plant and complaint investigations through the use of records, experimentation and technical knowledge.
  • Assist with instrument and method validations.
  • Provide training support for entry level technicians as necessary.
  • May require support as shift technician or for Microbiology labs backup as necessary.
  • Participate in the training of new analysts.
2 Quality
  • Follow up all standard lab procedures and testing methods.
  • Comply with cGMP & HACCP and ISO9000 standards, both in the laboratory and in plant.
  • Maintain accurate records of all test results and report them in a timely manner in alignment with the quality system.
  • Ensure documentation and records are maintained according to plant procedure and the quality system.
  • Suggest changes to procedure and methods as needed.

3 Safety/ Health/ Environment

  • Conduct all lab procedure in a manner that protects the safety & health of self & other individuals.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Assist in maintaining a high level all laboratory safety equipment and cleanliness/ housekeeping standards.
  • Support the site behavioral based safety program (REACT) by participating in observations and providing constructive feedback for safety improvement.
  • Ensure all works are conducted with respect to safety precautions, equipment safety devices.
  • Conduct all works in compliance with systems for maintaining a safe workplace (Management of Change, Environmental Management System, PSM etc.).
  • Take personal responsibility to raise safety concerns and be part of the resolution.
  • Participate in plant safety initiatives.
  • Ensure disposal of all laboratory wastes is in compliance with regulatory and plant guidelines.

4 Communication

  • Proactively communicate issues and ideas for improvement.
  • Ensure all key stakeholders in your areas of responsibility have required information in a timely manner.
  • Effectively utilized all communication systems (telephone, voicemail, electronic mail, memos, posting) to stay informed and inform others as appropriate.
  • Provide and/or respond to information requests in a timely and complete manner.
  • Demonstrate an attitude of respect and professional interaction with others.

5 Personal Development/ Learning

  • Actively pursue opportunities for continuous learning and expanded capability development.
  • Develop cross-functional capabilities in the chemistry lab and microbiology lab.

6 Administration/ Financial

  • Ensure cost conscientious is a major consideration in utilization of laboratory materials and equipment.
  • Ensure correct purchasing procedure are followed when purchasing goods or materials on behalf of the company.
  • Support supervision in the budget process by providing information as required.

Qualifications
 
1 Education/Experience
  • Bachelors of Science Degree preferred in chemical technology, food science, or related fields of study or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 to 5-year experience in an chemical laboratory, quality control, preferably in chemical or Pharmaceutical Industry environment.
  • Experience required with method and instrument validation.
2 Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
  • Board knowledge of multiple analytical laboratory/ quality control.
  • Required highly proficient computer skills, particularly LIMS, MS Office, Lotus Notes, email, and Internet.
  • Requires ability to prioritize and to work efficiently.
  • Requires ISO 9000 and cGMP&HACCP knowledge.
  • Requires Statistical and Validation knowledge.
