As chief accountant, you ensure the generating of credible and reliable financial accounts of the organization worldwide in accordance with the accounting standards as determined by management and the board of directors.
The chief accountant is responsible for the daily operation of the accounting department and he/she takes responsibility for the production and consolidation of periodic (monthly, quarterly) management accounts and annual statutory accounts, of all legal entities of Septentrio.
For the foreign entities, the chief accountant keeps a close relationship with Septentrio’s external accounting firms to prepare the accounts for statutory and legal filings.
You make sure all the accounting activities are accurate, and that the legal deadlines for all the accounting activities are met (including VAT declarations, local tax declarations and corporate tax filings).
In order to ensure high-quality and on-time periodic closing (5 business days after month end), you oversee the execution and improvement of accounting and closing processes.
You recommend and implement process improvements throughout the organization to ensure (1) sufficient internal controls resulting in the production of reliable and accurate financials and (2) to increase efficiency.
You work closely with the business analyst to maintain and improve the IT tools (SAP, Sigma, O365) as it relates to accounting and required for the effective performance of the department. You also work closely with controlling who oversees financial analysis, budgeting and management reporting.
The chief accountant monitors accounts receivable and ensures timely collection.
You also schedule and execute the audits with the statutory auditors.
You coach and work on the development of your employees to ensure their competencies, skills and know-how are used and developed to the best advantage and to work as a well-functioning department. You also coordinate and organise the different activities of the department according to the priorities and competencies of the individual team members and the needs of the organisation to ensure an efficient and effective service can be offered that meets the quality criteria of the organisation within the set terms.
At last, but not at least: the chief accountant ensures to that he/she and the team to be well-informed about the evolutions and developments related to accountancy and tax and that his/her knowledge is up-to-date within the context of the amendments to regulations to ensure his/her credibility can be strengthened by offering a service that is continuously based on updated knowledge.
MSc/BSc in accounting
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position.
A hands-on accounting professional who has an in-depth knowledge of bookkeeping and of accounting regulations (Belgian GAAP; notions of IFRS is a plus)
Experience with consolidation
Expertise in the Belgian tax system (VAT & Corporate tax) and in the generating of annual statutory accounts
Experience with SAP in a production and R&D environment
Good knowledge of MS Office and in particular Excel
Fluent in Dutch and English
