POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION SUMMARY Chief Medical Officer (Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital) Summary of Position The Chief Medical Officer of Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital (CMO) provides leadership, strategic direction and tactical implementation for continuous improvement of quality of care, outcomes, safety and best evidence-based medical practice at Deaconess Hospital. The CMO will be the liaison and visible medical leader between administration, all clinical units, and medical staff and will support organizational quality goals and patient safety initiatives. The CMO will oversee and direct the development of a comprehensive quality and patient safety program with practice guidelines. He/she will collaborate with physicians and hospital leadership in coordinating quality and safety initiatives and will provide appropriate medical direction in accordance with all applicable hospital policies and procedures. This position will participate in orienting physicians and other hospital staff members to policies and procedures related to quality and patient safety. He/she will assist the medical staff in the credentialing of its members and its evaluation and monitoring of the quality of their care through the quality management system while providing communication and education to the medical staff and health system leadership regarding the activities of the program. He/she will communicate with the Deaconess Hospital administrative team (CMO, Administrator, Director of Nursing) regarding services and clinical enhancements necessary to maintain or achieve a safe, high-quality patient care environment. He/she will work collaboratively with the Chief of Staff,Medical Staff Executive Committee members, and other designated clinicians and or groups on quality and patient safety initiatives. Working with the quality management and accreditation specialist, he/she will oversee the accreditation process for Deaconess Hospital. Reporting Relationships- This position reports directly to the Chief Physician Officer. This position directly supervises and manages the following positions: -Medical Staff Affairs Supervisor -Trauma Director -Medical Director Palliative Care -Medical Director Cosmetics -Medical Director Pulmonary Function Lab -Medical Director Sleep Lab -Medical Director ICU -Medical Director Perinatal Services -Medical Director Endocrinology and Diabetes REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION Required: M.D. from an accredited medical school Completion of a residency from an accredited institution Preferred: LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION Required: Board Certification License or eligibility to obtain a license to practice medicine in Montana Preferred: EXPERIENCE Required: Preferred: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsibilities -Ensure compliance with all applicable regulation and accreditation requirements. -Lead education efforts in quality and safety including safety culture training; create incentives to affect change. -Lead the quality management system. Devise and lead tactical efforts to improve quality measures, working with physicians and staff to collaborate for success in disease management using best practices and evidence based care algorithms; monitor results. -Assist in educating and reporting to the Board of Directors Quality & Safety Operating Committee. -Provide consultative support to the Medical Staff Executive Committee and serve on appropriate medical staff committees to enhance collaboration producing top-tier care delivery. -Understand organizational needs in the areas of information technology, finance, patient experience, risk management, corporate compliance, reputation, integrity, legal issues and general hospital operations, assist administration in these areas. -Assist with actual and potential risk management issues to minimize risk in clinical practice and implement initiatives to continue the journey to zero preventable harm. -Promote a collaborative environment with directors, physicians and staff. -Provide physician leadership to the quality staff in preparation and review of cases for peer review as needed, oversee Professional Practice Evaluation, and assist the credentialing process of the medical staff. -Support and enforce behavior standards and procedures for the medical staff as it relates to factors that contribute to adverse events and quality of care improvement including efforts to reduce variation in care. -Work with Chief Medical Information Officer, clinical informatics staff, quality staff, and medical staff members to develop electronic health record strategies that will support patient care quality and quality research. -S
