The Department and Team

Goulburn Valley Health is the main Health Care provider in the Hume Region.  The Shepparton Campus has 280 beds - providing acute medical, surgical, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatric, rehabilitation, intensive/coronary care, emergency care, mental health and geriatric care.  Goulburn Valley Health has additional campus’s, including Tatura (23 beds - providing 8 acute and 23 nursing home care), Waranga (22 beds - providing 12 acute and 10 nursing home care, acute and residential care and the Waranga Hostel providing 32 residential aged care beds), Seymour (Community Psychiatric Service) and a Community Health building in Shepparton (Hospital in the Home, diabetes education, continence and aged care assessment, home based nursing and allied health).
GV Health are currently undergoing a$169 million redevelopment, this redevelopment will include a new renal dialysis unit, an expanded emergency department including satellite medical imaging, inpatient wards, extended theatre space, intensive care unit, a new kitchen, mortuary and the establishment of a Women’s and Children’s precinct featuring a new, special care nursery, paediatric ward and refurbished maternity ward.

The role

We are seeking an experienced mental health clinician, preferably with expertise in working with youth who have mental ilness, substance use and housing issues.  The clinician will work together with homeless services to support services in identifying and responding to the complexities of this cohort.  The role will directly support a defined number of young people with homelessess, mental heatlh and substance use issues for a period of 3-6 months. 

To be successful in the role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in mental heatlh nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Psychology
  • Strong time management skills
  • The ability to work autonomously and part of a team
  • Experience and expertise in youth mental health

Essential: Registered Psychiatric Nurse: ? Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse, with endorsed postgraduate studies in mental health; or
Essential: Social Workers: ? Current registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers; or
Essential: Occupational Therapists: ? Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Occupational Therapist; or
Essential: Psychologist: ? Current clinical psychology or forensic psychology registration with the Psychology Board of Australia in accordance with the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Victoria) Act 2009
Essential: Experience and expertise in the provision of assessment, treatment planning and intervention for children and adolescents with a mental health disorder
Essential: Understanding of the complexities of dual diagnosis and homelessness in the youth sector
Essential: Experience in working collaboratively with healthcare, welfare and education agencies to support young people in addressing mental health concerns
Essential: Experience in delivering education and mentoring sessions regarding youth mental health concerns
