Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The VP & Commercial Banking Officer is responsible for ongoing daily management of borrowing and depository relationships with existing commercial banking clients and the development of new client relationships for the Bank with a focus on commercial & industrial (middle market) businesses. Ongoing management to include appropriate portfolio management responsibility to ensure high credit quality standards are maintained. Position is also responsible for facilitating sales referrals to business partners (Trust, Insurance, Treasury Management, Retail, Securities, Residential Lending, etc.) Position will also support the Bank’s CRA lending initiatives. Officer is expected to be involved in a minimum of two community activities.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree required. MBA preferred.

Five to ten years commercial banking experience with strong C & I lending experience.

Strong financial analysis, credit/risk underwriting and decision making skills.

Demonstrated business development experience with history of proven sales achievement.

Completion of a formal credit training program.

Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Must possess developed oral and written skills to communicate internally with peers and team members and externally with clients, prospects and centers of influence in a positive manner, portraying respect and professionalism.

ANALYTICAL SKILLS:

Strong analysis skills to evaluate financial statements, tax returns, customer profiles and business relationships to support the needs of existing and prospective customers.

Sound decision making ability that balances the Bank’s profitability, sales and service goals with the needs of the customer.

Focused attention to detail that ensures customer files are accurately documented throughout the loan process and properly maintained thereafter.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret advanced technical journals, banking regulations, financial reports and legal documents.

Acts as a consultant to clients and a resource to the Bank in developing and retaining business.

Demonstrates solid product and operational knowledge.

Possesses excellent C & I lending knowledge and strong portfolio management abilities.

Ability to oversee and coordinate the entire loan process from application through negotiating and closing.

Ability to develop relationships with external resources and centers of influence to assist in sales efforts.

Utilizes a high degree of creativity and independence in all aspects of position.

Ability to work under pressure and multi-task with projects.

Must possess analytical and professional skills to resolve complex customer issues using appropriate resources.

Ongoing support of the Bank’s sales culture. Originate, develop and maintain relationships with business customers for both lending and depository accounts, through direct and ongoing sales calls and referrals.

Analyzes financial statements and customer profiles to support the needs of both existing and new potential customers. Conducts sufficient financial analysis of proposed transactions and requests from customers to sufficiently screen those transactions presented for high probability of approval success.

Works with Credit Risk Management department to effectively and efficiently manage the credit analysis and decision submission process, for those transactions and customer relationships for which CRM participation is required.

Active participation in community and civic organizations.

Cross-sells banking services to existing and prospective commercial customers.

Ensure proper administration of day to day operations, security controls, sound judgment for decision making and compliance with established policy and procedure.

Knowledge and ability to use computer applications and various software systems.

Works well with others throughout the Bank including direct manager, co-workers or business partners.
OTHER REQUIREMENT:

Banking is a highly regulated industry and you will be expected to acquire and maintain a proficiency in the Bank’s policies and procedures, and adhere to all laws, rules and regulations that are applicable to your conduct and the work you will be performing. You will also be expected to complete all assigned compliance training in a timely manner.
