Job Description


Working within the Labatt Legal team, you will review the packaging and labelling of a breadth of products produced and marketed in Canada by Labatt and its affiliates, including other members of the AB InBev family for regulatory compliance. As part of a massive labelling review and update project (involving approximately 1,400 SKUs), new innovation projects and ongoing label updates, you will review primary and secondary packaging for compliance of ingredient lists, nutrition facts tables, allergen statements, and other regulatory elements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all Canadian regulations; and for compliance with certain internal standards. You will also be expected to update and maintain documentation and approvals across several applications, and work closely with other members of the Legal team to provide proactive and creative solutions to our clients. You will take an active and important role in helping the Legal team manage its part of such comprehensive labelling project. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Using several different label review, approval, and project management applications to perform the regulatory compliance reviews of all relevant labels.
  • Assist in the development of efficiencies, internal labelling standards, best practices, and Standard Operating Procedures and workflows within the Legal team and our cross-functional client teams.
  • Liaise and coordinate with Legal team members, internal subject matter experts in food law, intellectual property law, and marketing and advertising law as well as brewmasters, liquid developers, and cider makers to ensure labelling questions are appropriately escalated and answered in a timely manner.
  • Help project-manage designated label reviews to ensure they are prioritized appropriately and completed on time.
  • Work cross-functionally with brand managers, project owners/managers, graphic designers, and production/operations teams to collaborate throughout the label review process.

Job Qualifications

  • Education: Degree, diploma, certification, or commensurate experience in food label regulatory review and compliance. Candidates are expected to have an undergraduate degree in addition to completed role-related studies or work experience.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of Canadian food regulations on label formatting requirements, ingredients, claims, and nutritional labelling is required to be able to conduct compliance reviews of all components of product packaging and labelling. Demonstrated strong project management skills are required. Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), comfort learning new applications, and being generally tech-savvy is necessary for this role. Frenchlanguage proficiency would be an asset.
