As a Staff Transformation Consulting Architect (Professional Services), you will advocate and support VMware’s leading customers in progressing their IT transformation journey, specifically by helping them address the “how” when adopting transformational solutions. You will also focus on optimising and establishing IT operational processes that take advantage of VMware product capabilities.
The Staff Transformation Consulting Architect will interact at many stakeholder levels within the customer’s environment and must be able to demonstrate strong operations assessment skills, thought leadership and customer service commitment. You will be responsible for owning the solution, which includes the business impact, assessment, gap analysis, design, implementation, and validation.
A successful Staff Transformation Consulting Architect must feel comfortable working with all levels in an organisation. You may be working with the Enterprise Architects, IT Operations Managers, Project Managers, Service or Portfolio Directors, VPs, and CxOs. Internally your stakeholders will be the Account team, Professional Service Directors and Delivery Managers.
A staff Transformation Consulting Architect may be engaged through discretionary services to work autonomously, to build customised operations transformation solutions that meet a client’s unique business needs. Building a solution involves activities such as running workshops, conducting client interviews, secondary research, extracting input from the Account Team, engaging technical specialists and product stakeholders.
The Staff Transformation Consulting Architect should have excellent listening and interpersonal skills, ability to solve complex operational problems, be a visionary thinker and be able to communicate the solution at all levels. After you have obtained a clear client vision, you will be accountable for designing and implementing the solution. As the Transformation Consulting Architect, you will own the solution and support the detailed creation of any resulting proposals, scoping work effort estimates, and contribute to statements of work. You must possess exceptional English language written and oral skills to match the seniority level of the customer audience and their expectations of the reports that you author.
As a Staff Transformation Consulting Architect, you will be responsible for the design of complex operational transformational solutions. In this leadership position, you should feel comfortable in leading the development of solutions. The role requires proficient use of tools, frameworks, and design patterns to create your solutions. You will contribute to those frameworks, develop reusable intellectual property (IP) and coach internal & external stakeholders of its method. You will be working as part of a team comprising of colleagues with similar charters. To effectively build sophisticated strategies, it is essential to build a strong network among your peers and all stakeholder teams – which may also include partners. In this leadership role, you should be ready to take ownership of the initiatives and programs and be accountable for the stakeholder satisfaction of your solutions.

Drive practice business development with Client Services Executives and Client Solutions Architect to support pre-sales activities, with a primary focus on scoping work, creating proposals, and contributing to statements of work and RFPs
Lead and conduct engagements in a billable capacity; ensuring solutions are delivered in accordance with the SOW and estimated effort
Maintain an expert level depth of knowledge within the operations transformation area
Provide high-level operations transformation direction and expertise in services pre-sales discussions with clients
Work with VMware’s Professional Services Engineering team to define, develop and implement tools and documentation needed to ensure consistency of the solution methodology, and to create new services and solutions
Ensure operations transformation consultation best-practices are instituted within legally binding contractual instruments, such as SOW’s
Effectively communicate operations transformation solutions architecture to the customer, third parties and the delivery teams
Create operational procedures, organisational models, communication plans, and onboarding procedures that will drive meaningful adoption of VMware products and services
Lead creation of Application and Migration Strategies using VMware methodologies and frameworks (discover, analyse, plan, execute)
Lead Agile sprint workshops that deliver a Minimal Viable Operation Model and Product (MVP) for the customer, through the addition of comprehensive and enhanced enterprise-scale features and capabilities, across multiple lines of business and corporate operations
Participate in regional events to promote the Transformation Consulting practice, network with industry peers to maintain your expertise and adopt fresh ideas for growth, development, and improvement of the team
Maintain proficiency in VMware’s operations transformation capabilities, value proposition and industry case studies
Obtain continuous feedback from the field, customers and partners bringing market intelligence back to Professional Services Engineering and present recommendations on initiatives, which enhance operations transformation capabilities and offerings
7+ years of operations consulting experience, or 14+ years of related IT experience
Proficient understanding of the value proposition and fundamental purpose of VMware’s management offerings and the organisational and operational relationship to SDDC/Cloud/Hybrid Cloud/Containers/Digital Workspace/Security/Applications
Proven experience with the governance structure and compliance challenges of organisations and their industry program framework, across at least two industry verticals – e.g. Energy, Government, Mining, Financial, Retail, Airline, Telecommunications
Proficient competency with at least four technology domains – Cloud, Security, Virtualisation, High-Availability, Containerisation, Application Development, Storage, Compute, Automation, Reporting or Monitoring, Networking, Digital Workspace, User Experience
Financial acumen which underpins the challenges of Modern IT and Digital transformation. You must have experience in at least two areas of financial management - e.g. Cloud economics, commercial partner engagement, ROI modelling, TCO assessment, sales revenue forecasting, product lifecycle forecasting, business unit budgeting
7+ years of experience with modern IT operations methodologies such as ITIL, ISO27001, ISO20000, and MOF - with emphasis on IT processes improvement
Minimum 5+ years business development experience in a consulting or professional services environment
Experience in a technical lead role for small or medium-size teams
Strong presentation, executive client management and business development skills
Excellent negotiation skills within enterprise-sized organisations
Proven experience with system management and automation, or monitoring tools - e.g. VMware’s suite, BMC, HP, IBM/Tivoli, CA, Microsoft, SolarWinds, Terraform
Proven experience delivering IT organisation transformation projects
Proven experience in executive communication and presentation delivery
Excellent collaboration skills, both in-person and remote
Experience with IT financial management tools and service costing process is desirable
Experience with compliance management and governance tools is desirable
Ability to hold Australian Government Security Clearance if required for a customer engagement (Australian Citizen with a verifiable background)
Ability to travel up to 30%
Must possess ITIL Foundation certification
IT4IT Foundation, TOGAF, Zachman Framework certification is desirable
BEng/BFin/BEc/BSc/BA degree, or equivalent extended study demonstrating comparable primary and secondary research, and organisational skills. All other operations/reporting/technical training will be considered.
