About the role:

* This role involves work for the Australian Government and will potentially have access to classified information/resources. As such, a security clearance is required and therefore it is a requirement that the successful candidate be an Australian Citizen. *

The Consulting Architect is responsible for providing direction and leadership to technical teams, potentially drawing on expertise from the broader Optus business when targeting major opportunities and developing associated proposals. This will include being responsible for supporting complex major accounts whose commercial needs require sophisticated, innovative and integrated business solutions.

The purpose of this role is to provide a high level of business and technical consultancy in all areas of Information Communications Technologies (ICT) to strategic customer accounts.  You will need to bring in demonstrated in-depth technology and business knowledge across a range of industry segments and technology specialties within the ICT space to deliver enterprise wide solutions to Optus customers.


  • Developing innovative / complex ICT road maps, articulating the plan and influencing senior management both externally and internally
  • Providing professional enterprise-wide design and consultancy services to develop innovative ‘whole-of-business’ relationships on an ongoing basis, to address customer business requirements through technology, application and services
  • Extensive customer facing skills to build a strong rapport with the customer along with experience of presenting to the C-level executive, contribution to proposal authoring and innovative thinking.
  • Be the key link between the sales process, product capability owners, and implementation teams.
  • Have a detailed understanding of both the Customer's ICT environment and that of market competitors to ensure that Optus can provide effective competitive comparisons and strategic solutions

Experience required:

  • Proven experience providing technical and consulting support in the communications & Information Technology industries
  • Broad-based ICT/Telecommunications systems design background with detailed understanding of enterprise-wide system architecture and service management methodologies.
  • Exposure to enterprise service management and architecture methodologies and frameworks such as ITIL and TOGAF.
  • Advanced consulting and selling skills covering strategic positioning and enterprise-wide solutions-based selling at C – level.
  • Ability to recognize and analyse the customer’s business needs and translate them into relevant ICT solutions.
  • Experience in the development of long-term business relationships and developing strategic sales plans are essential.
  • Ability to lead major Design teams through setting the architecture strategy, including leading RFT submission activities
  • Strong thought leadership and collaboration skills and be able to articulate value proposition to the customer
  • Strong verbal, written, documentation and design, presentation and effective listening skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Understand financial principles and engage in financial return discussions with customers, including the ability to produce costing models.
