Our Ottawa-based client is seeking a Financial Controller to join their team. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff.

Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time.
Manage monthly and annual close of the income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis.
Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll.
Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required.
Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation.
Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies.
Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis.
Act on items beyond formal job responsibilities.
Ensure client satisfaction by reviewing deliverables of self and team.
Give financial reports to the executive committee and partners each month.
Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management.
Excellent analytical, quantitative, and social skills.
Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges.
Vow to meet business deadlines.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred.
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other business-related fields.
Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment.
Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills.
Attention to detail and proven ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement.
Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued.
Cost accounting experience preferred.
Solid understanding of Property Management.
Budget forecasting experience.
Knowledge of financial statement preparation.
Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds.
Prior work in technology, analytics, and management experience desired.
Financial designation considered a strong asset.
