Reporting to the Director, Finance (West), the Controller provides direction and leadership to the finance team at the Plant Operations level in multiple facilities. Responsibilities include leading and developing the people, month end close process, financial reporting and operational reporting for the plants assigned (5 – 1 Further Processing, 1 Chicken and 3 Hatcheries), internal controls, process improvement, maximizing cash flow and ad hoc analysis and reporting. The Controller will be a leader in establishing a customer service and business partner culture in the Finance team and will continuously be looking for ways to add value both individually and as a team.
Lead and develop an effective, high performance Finance team dedicated to continuous improvement and plant operational success;
Deliver value-added, action oriented operational reporting and analysis for assigned facilities.
Work closely with Plant Managers and other key functions / stakeholders on a collaborative, committed, business partnership basis to ensure Company objectives are delivered.
Play an active, integral role presenting at operational and executive meetings;
Coordinate and improve monthly close process to ensure efficient, accurate, complete and on time delivery of the monthly financial and operational reporting packages;
Establish and monitor internal controls and regulatory compliance. Including Balance Sheet reconciliations and clearing actions on a timely basis;
Manage all general ledger functions including chart of account management. Lead ERP system support and integrate with business needs;
Liaise with other plant controllers as well as corporate finance, business performance, treasury etc.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or business administration;
Professional Accounting Designation and minimum of eight years post designation manufacturing experience, preferably in a food processing environment;
Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian GAAP (ASPE);
Demonstrated business and financial acumen; excellent analytical skills
Strong ability to build effective relationships within and outside the Company;
Advance experience with an ERP system; proficiency with MS Suite with advanced Excel skills .
