Job Description

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia - Canada SUMMARY The Plant Controller provides financial leadership to the Mission Components Plant. This position reports directly to the Plant Leader with dotted line reporting to the Components manufacturing Financial Leader to drive results. The Plant Controller is responsible for maintaining a controls environment that complies with the Company’s internal control policies and Sarbanes Oxley. The Plant Controller is expected to be a dynamic leader on the plant leadership team by contributing to all areas of plant management. The position is an important part of the financial talent pipeline and serves as a feeder for larger plants as well as corporate roles (i.e. Mfg Financial Leader, Segment Analyst, etc.). This individual will also be responsible for controls at all third-party logistics warehouses in Canada for the Components business. Operations Planning Participates in the development of operational objectives for the plant that are aligned to Corporate and Division strategic objectives Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement and corrective actions to ensure facility financial results and shareholder value are optimized. Metrics Operating rhythm and cadence in place and being followed Operations plans executed Process expectations and timing 2. Financial and Operational Controls Ensures that there is an effective and efficient system of internal controls including; data integrity, asset protection, segregation of duties, budgeting, financial reporting, information systems and adherence to corporate policies and governmental regulations (GAAP, SOX compliance, etc.) Drives a robust representation letter process that provides assurance and visibility to a sound internal control environment. Leads the Continuous Sign-off process to ensure that accountability for internal controls is clear and that processes are documented. Sustains roll out of new Spare Part Management procedures being implemented in early 2019 Becomes resident expert in inventory transactions pertaining to finished products, raw materials, and spare parts – ensures frameworks surrounding each are robust to account for cost correctly while maintaining an accurate balance sheet Metrics Controls performance ratings Audit ratings 3. Reporting and Analysis Leads financial planning, budgeting and forecasting processes Prepares and delivers the plant financial forecasts and projections Monitors the plant’s monthly closing process in conjunction with the Accounting team Communicates results effectively to management and non-financial personnel Provides in-depth analysis on variances to plan and forecast Provides risk analysis for contingency planning Metrics Timely and accurate Closing process Forecast accuracy and timeliness Balance Sheet Integrity 4. Driving plant profitability Leads actions in line with achieving targets, mitigating risk and prioritizing resource needs Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement and corrective actions to ensure facility financial results and shareholder value are optimized Provides insightful and competitive analytics that anticipate change and drive decision making Provides investment analysis Assists in contract evaluation and negotiation Educates plant personnel on key performance metrics Metrics Key performance indicators Productivity against plan Financial performance against plan Return on capital Results of capital projects 5. Leading and developing talent Creates an environment where talent is developed through effective performance management, talent evaluation systems and utilization of people. Acts as a resource to the non-financial leaders of the business providing education and training on the key principles of Finance Invests in the growth and development of identified talent in their organization.
