Minimum qualifications:

  • Experience analyzing datasets in the context of abuse/fraud detection or web security research.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: querying and analyzing large datasets (e.g, SQL, MapReduce, Hadoop), malware analysis (YARA, reverse engineering), statistical analysis (e.g. R, Stata, SAS), and/or data-focused programming (e.g. Python, C/C++).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, or related technical discipline.
  • Experience with abuse/fraud detection or web security research.
  • Understanding of how the internet works economically, socially, and technically; Domain knowledge or proven interest in security, malware, phishing or related topics.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to independently prioritize competing stakeholder demands.

Trust and Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. Safe Browsing's goal is to make the world’s information safely accessible to all, and along with Safe Browsing Engineering we are responsible for protecting Internet users across the globe from phishing and malware. Safe Browsing systems provide defenses against these threats for Google products such as Gmail, Chrome, Search, and Google Ads.

Our goals include: increasing the coverage, accuracy, and speed of Safe Browsing enforcement systems, understanding the global threat environment for malware, phishing, and unwanted software, and improving the user experience, both internally and externally, by communicating with webmasters, users, and partners.

You'll become an expert in the workings of malware, phishing, and unwanted software campaigns, and you will help the team to detect and prevent these abuses at scale. You'll demonstrate analytical thinking and make data-driven decisions. You'll use your technical expertise, charisma, and collaboration skills to make a big impact.

  • Perform complex data analyses to identify harmful entities, design and implement key performance metrics, examine trends, and identify system vulnerabilities.
  • Analyze potentially malicious applications to understand their behavior and impact on users.
  • Improve tools or systems by influencing key stakeholders with data and analyses.
  • Enhance operational workflows via process improvements and automation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional groups such as Engineering, Product, and Legal to improve system accuracy, fix product loopholes, and provide users with a better online experience.
