Data Architect (French Service)

A robust data architecture allowing us to easily marshal our data for machine learning analysis is one of the pillars of this customization initiative. So if you’re passionate about data architecture and modelling, we want to hear from you!

Your role

As Data Architect, you will establish the data architecture vision for Radio-Canada Digital Media’s Business Intelligence team and see that vision through to implementation.

You will be responsible for determining the current maturity level and the roadmap for achieving our objectives in conjunction with the Product Manager, Data and Analytics, and the Lead Developer, Big Data.

You will work with:

• The Product Manager, Data and Analytics
• A team of developers responsible for setting up and developing our Big Data infrastructure
• A team of business intelligence analysts responsible for providing departments with tools to support their decision-making
• A team of machine learning developers in charge of leveraging and applying AI to boost user engagement in our digital platforms as well as support teams in their automated decision-making
• The Metrics team, made up of business data analysts, responsible for:

  • Determining rules and nomenclature for page and viewing data

  • Drafting technical implementation guides for our analytics platforms.

  • Ensuring the quality and integrity of data ingested by our analytics systems

Your key responsibilities:

• Determine the current data-architecture maturity level
• Organize the Business Intelligence team’s data at a macro level
• Organize the Business Intelligence team’s data at a micro level; i.e., model the derived and standardized data layers
• Set up a logical, standardized data model to serve as a baseline for consumption
• Review change requests based on analytical needs or product and source system evolutions
• Evolve our data dictionary
• Evolve our data access and governance policies
• Help establish data quality management processes
• Review needs and friction points with data operations leaders to mitigate the impact on their workflow
• Establish trust with the teams in charge of tools that produce ingested data

How will you make a difference?

• You will be an influencer in decisions about building a relevant infrastructure for CBC/Radio-Canada. You will guide your team to understand how content data can be utilized to enable better customization of our digital products.
• You will align your roadmap with the reality of our technology ecosystem, listen to the needs of the business, and present recommendations to the broader organization.
• You will sustain a culture of collaboration, learning and creativity. You will work with multidisciplinary teams, providing mentoring and leadership.

• University degree in computer science, software engineering, information science or other relevant field
• Five or more years’ experience working with digital data architecture on systems used for data operations in an analysis environment
• Knowledge of Big Data technologies (Spark, Impala, Parquet)
• Familiarity with the PowerBI visualization tool
• Analytical mind and open-minded approach to problem solving
• Knowledge of privacy-by-design principles
• Ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively
• Ability to grasp technical concepts and make them understandable to non-experts
• Flexibility and drive
• Good judgment, thoroughness, initiative and autonomy
• Excellent stress management and prioritization skills
• Superior spoken and written French; practical knowledge of English is an asset

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

Please note that this is a 12-month contract position, renewable annually.
