As a Data Engineer within Zalando’s Direct Communication Department you will have a significant impact on how Zalando communicates with millions of customers via emails and push notifications. Our vision is to inspire, inform and engage every customer in a personalized way, so that every customer enjoys a tailored stream of relevant fashion inspiration and personal product recommendations throughout their customer journey.
We’ve successfully started this journey by building a core data product which integrates billions of messaging data points on customer level, and we’re now growing our team to accelerate towards our vision.
Within a strong and mature cross-functional team, you will advance our core data product for customer-level insights, as well as build innovative data products for inferring customers’ communication habits and preferences and automated decision-making as to when to send the right content to the right customer.
WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED:
Consulting with Product Managers, Analysts, Data Scientists, Marketing Experts and Engineering Teams to build and continuously improve data products that help solving customer problems within the Direct Communication domain.
Developing, monitoring, and operating data integration pipelines, deployed as applications on a PaaS/SaaS cloud (AWS), processing hundreds of millions of records to provide high-quality datasets for analytical and machine learning use-cases (i.e. customer-level KPI reporting, automation around A/B testing and other causal inference methods, algorithmic message steering).
Designing and delivering supportive operational elements for our team (metrics, graphs, alerting, tracing) to be able to track operational performance of our data products.
Innovate our ways of monitoring the data quality of upstream microservices and datastores we integrate (i.e. through near-time data anomaly detection), to continuously improve the data quality we provide to downstream services.
Joining our community of 150+ Data Engineers across the company to constantly improve the data landscape at Zalando.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Strong programming skills in at least one of Java or Scala (Python is a plus).
Advanced knowledge of relational databases, data modelling and solid experience in doing data analysis with SQL.
Knowledge of Spark or Flink is a plus.
Experience in developing, deploying and operating applications in production using cloud technologies (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker) is also a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and the ability to explain projects to diverse audiences and the ability to share your knowledge within your team.
Passionate about topics like data governance, privacy and data quality assurance.
