Mission



We are looking for a data scientist with generalist skills to join our team, in the context of a collaboration with Rakuten marketplaces. Heaps of unannotated data are found on marketplaces in the form of items with images, titles, descriptions, etc.: a core objective of RIT is to leverage these data in a beneficial way to the business. Current research and development focuses on multimodal information extraction and self/weakly supervised learning.



As part of the candidate’s mission, they will join a RIT team dedicated to this problem.




  • Collaborate with other data scientists on the team

  • Obtain data from various internal and external sources

  • Clean and preprocess datasets for machine learning purposes

  • Build, train, test and maintain predictive models that can run at large scale

  • Stay up-to-date with current machine learning developments

  • Participate in scientific conferences and contribute to the scientific community through publications


We are looking for a candidate very interested in machine learning and especially deep learning, both as a domain for business applications and as a research domain. Presentation of personal projects is encouraged. In details, the list of skills and qualifications required is, by order of priority:




  • Masters or PhD degree in relevant domain

  • English fluency

  • Machine learning/statistical learning expertise

  • Experience in deep learning techniques for computer vision and natural language processing

  • Experience with research-oriented activities, publications and presentations

  • Experience in data processing for machine learning on images and text

  • Coding skills: fluency in python

  • Proficiency in one or several machine learning/deep learning frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow / Keras, PyTorch)

  • Linux shell elementary proficiency

  • Workflow: experience with git/version control

  • Experience in Hadoop framework and PySpark is a plus
