We are currently looking for an experienced Data Services User Support Expert to join our international team of young and inspiring engineers and industry professionals, tasked with driving innovation within the Space, Satellite and Earth Observation sector.
This role is routed in the mission of EUMETSAT and will provide the opportunity to work with leading IT, Space and Earth Observation organisations and domain experts to make a positive impact on society!
EUMETSAT's new portfolio of data access services becomes operational in 2021. These services include data discovery, download and data tailoring services using hosted processing and web map, content and feature services as well as EUMETCast data dissemination and Archive access services.
Data from future satellite missions will be disseminated to users through both EUMETCast satellite and EUMETCast terrestrial means and also be made available through the new download and view services. The user community needs to be supported during the transition and routine operations of the new portfolio of data services.
Reporting to the User Relations Manager, the Data Services User Support Officer will provide user support related to data access services. S/he will be part of the User Support and Climate Services Division, and will coordinate activities with other relevant technical and user support teams at EUMETSAT.
What you'll be doing
Coordinate and further develop the user support activities relating to the EUMETSAT data access services;
Create and maintain user support information describing the EUMETCast services to allow users to self-support, and support similar activities for other data access services;
Support the implementation of the Multi-Channel NRT Data Access Strategy and its evolution;
Organise and deliver user events which promote NRT data access services and document user feedback;
Coordinate EUMETCast training activities for national weather services and other core users of the EUMETCast and new Data Store service and deliver some of this training as needed; Support activities related to the extension of the user base for EUMETSAT near real-time data, products and services;
Engaging with users to understand their requirements as well as issues experienced in using the related data services, and communicating them internally for evaluation and further evolution of those services.

University degree or equivalent in one of the following disciplines: Information Technology, Computer Science, EO and Earth System Sciences, Physics or related discipline
Skills and Experience:
Proven practical experience in supporting users, preferably in supporting time-critical data services;
Familiarity with EO satellite data and its downstream use within an operational and/or academic setting, e.g. use of satellite data in a national weather service or university;
Knowledge and experience in data access and/or reception of large volumes of data via satellite and/or terrestrial Wide Area Networks;
Experience with network protocols used for the distribution of data via IP unicast and IP multicast;
Experience in the use of Application Programming Interfaces (API), Python and / or Jupyter Notebook.
Familiarity in the use of Windows and Linux operating systems;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to apply these to interactions with service users and between teams.
