Position Summary
  • The Design Engineer will be a core member of the Mechanical Engineering team. The Engineer will be heavily involved in supporting the development cycle of products associated with automatic doors, automatic door components, and related systems.
  • Innovate, create, and enhance existing products to be more efficient and customer-forward
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing, Installation, & Service (DFMI&S) principles to current product lines
  • Reduce the number of open tasks from the Sustaining list. Provide monthly updates to a larger team
    • Collaborate with different departments (Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, & the Field) to identify solutions
    • Investigate current issues and provide potential concepts for resolution
  • Advanced mechanical design for existing products, options, and accessories
    • Gain insights and knowledge of core products
  • Update Creo Parametric models and BOMs of components and assemblies
    • Generate 2D manufacturing drawings using 3D model data
  • Document new product options to minimize the need for custom, special, low-volume projects
    • Support special requests as needed with technical expertise
  • Obtain prototype components/subassemblies interfacing with domestic and foreign suppliers to build test samples
  • Create methodical test specifications for validation and verification of new and existing designs
  • Communicate with third party contractors to further elaborate on designs
    • Strong intrapersonal skills to work with other engineers to brainstorm new concepts and ideas
  • Work independently on other small projects including Productivity projects
  • Build, install, and test new or upgraded products
Required Skills & Experience
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or 10 years design and analysis experience in lieu of degree
  • 7+ years of experience with the following:
    • Creo, Windchill or other Product Data Management (PDM) software
    • SAP
    • ​MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
  • 5+ years of experience using both hand and power tools
Nonessential/Preferred Education, Skills & Experience
  • Electro-mechanical background preferred
  • Strong design skills preferred
    • Experience with gear trains, metallurgy, advanced mechanisms, and complex linkages strongly desired
  • Ability to problem solve in a systematic approach with a high standard for integrity and accountability
    • Desire to learn, attention to detail, ability to execute, & be a self-starter
    • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience using Creo Parametric 3D modeling preferred
    • Extensive knowledge of 3D modeling techniques for components and large assemblies
    • Ability to perform finite element analysis (FEA) a plus but not necessary
    • Ability to create 2D electrical wiring schematics a plus
