Job Description

As a UI Development Manager, you will join a collaborative global team of fellow Design, Business, Product and Technical stakeholders to work on transforming the Human Capital Management industry, by turning complex problems into elegant solutions that delight our clients and our users. We create and innovate enterprise-level web and mobile software for Human Resource professionals and employees.
This role will provide both strategic and tactical leadership for the UI development team, aligning user interface development standards and best practices within a global User Experience & Design Team. We employ an evidence-driven user-centered design process, and this role will help strengthen the critical connection between User Research, UX Design, front-end UI Development and Scrum teams. Championing great UI development, while also a clear understanding of our user’s tasks and goals
The Role:
  • This role requires an individual with a successful history of context switching between technical UI development, team leadership, people coaching, with a continual focus and understanding of our users, championing of our user-centered process, while facilitating high-collaboration betwween UI Developers with a global team of User Research, UX Design, PO/BA and Scrum teams.
  • Spearheading UXUI best practices, team initiatives, managing people and product risks, providing coaching to the UI development team, as well as partnering with other functional team managers to push forward initiatives and process improvements.
  • Focus on continuous improvement activities, education and mentoring, including the collection and trending of key data points, as well as defining improvement plans.
  • Partner with the Global Leader of User Experience & Design in defining future UXUI functional strategies.
  • A primary function is to understand the pain points and own the functional UI development roadmap to help teams evolve and achieve goals and strategic vision. Managing the team towards objectives.
  • Tied to the strategic initiatives, visualize the upcoming needs and hurdles of the team and/or its functions to help clear a path for the successful implementation of the roadmap. Create opportunities for your team and employees to succeed.
  • You will be part of the Regional and Global Leadership Team and will ensure that team members are working towards producting high-quality work and performing to the best of their capability, meeting and exceeding both our user’s needs and UXUI standards and best practices.
  • This position requires a passion for great product user experiences that are realized through great user interface code, but also the ability to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders to achieve this goal.
  • The successful candidate will be a self-starter, resourceful and a thought leader; however will need to possess tact and a highly professional demeanor, with the ability to navigate a distributed, global organization.
  • Evaluate employee’s performance to determine how well they are fulfilling their job and help them develop their abilities and skills for their career paths. Help assess staffing needs: interview, hire, fire and supervise as needed. Ensure individual or team issues are addressed, and overall morale is high.
  • Develop more leaders through servant leadership, leading by example and mentoring.
  • Constant focus on continuous improvement activities, including the collection and trending of key data points, as well as defining improvement plans. Spearhead the successful adoption and execution of best practices including, but not limited to creation of UXUI standards, improving collaboration between UX designers and UI developers, creation of UI development standards and best practices, while also operationalizing these best practices supporting the execution of product roadmaps.
  • Participle in the evaluation of emerging technology and tools with the understanding of how they can be leveraged across our teams.
  • Embrace and contribute to our Agile/Lean philosophy.

The Requirement:
  • You clearly understand and can articulate the difference between user-centered User Experience design and the User Interface development that is necessary to achieve the highest-quality results.
  • Verifiable high-competency when it comes to stakeholder management, capable of challenging the norm and driving discussions focused on clear problem understanding as well as possible solutions.
  • Experience in ensuring teams uphold the highest standards and effectiveness in delivering product roadmap and vision.
  • Excellent organizational skills, multitasking ability and proven analytical, methodical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on virtual global teams, helping navigate the challenges being a global team. Promoting the vision of being ‘ONE TEAM’ for all global resources.
  • Listen to employees to see where problem areas exist and help manage through that or escalate. Provide advice to upper management.
  • Possess high emotional intelligence, self-awareness, empathy and motivating colleagues is required.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills, including the ability to effectively communicate to non-technical and technical team members and leaders and the ability to proactively provide status on team successes, challenges and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working within an Agile Scrum software development lifecycle.
  • Strong work ethic is a must.
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of related software development experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership and team management experience.
  • Verifiable applied experience with UI architecture and development technologies including but not limited to HTML5, CSS, AngularJS and Bootstrap.
  • Experience in leading and aligning UI development to a UX design practice executing user-centered design process within software development.
  • Experience working on both new enhancement and maintenance software development projects.
  • Experience working with collaboration and issue tracking tools such as Confluence and JIRA.
  • Experience working for a national or global commercial software product company requiring software product usage and high availability in a 24/7/365 model.
