This role sits within our Financial & Risk (“F&R”) business.  On January 30, 2018, Thomson Reuters announced that it signed a definitive agreement to enter into a strategic partnership with private equity funds managed by Blackstone related to the company's F&R business. As part of the transaction, Thomson Reuters has agreed to sell a 55% majority stake in Financial & Risk and will retain a 45% interest in the business.  Thomson Reuters will maintain full ownership of its Legal, Tax & Accounting and the Reuters News businesses. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of the year and is subject to specified regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. About the role

The Enterprise Product Technology group are creating a new, Nottingham-based development team and have the need for recruitment of a Development Manager. It is a senior technology role responsible for delivery of customer-facing API capabilities associated with Elektron Data Platform, the next-generation data delivery platform and product suite.

This role is critical in driving our simplification agenda across APIs and Frameworks which will support our key initiatives – Enterprise Content Platform (ECP) and our Next Generation Enterprise Data Feeds (EDS), which forms the overall Thomson Reuters Open Platform Strategy.

Main Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Successfully execute technology projects, products and teams, releasing major software projects and maintenance releases
  • Lead the team to develop core software components
  • Lead projects and initiatives with significant risk, complexity and scope
  • Communicate and provide technical liaison between management, product, business and operational teams whilst building effective relationships
  • Help shape technology strategy and drive execution of the platform
  • Support the career development of the team (objective setting, performance management, talent management, etc.)
  • Support project leads to assist in removing project impediments
  • Create an environment and a culture that encourages immediate response to problems and sets expectations and timeframe for resolution with customers or groups managing customers, and manages escalated issues.
  • Help team members to grow in technical skills, development practices and business understanding

Essential Skills/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline preferred
  • Previous technical leadership or management experience
  • Communication skills with a high degree of comfort speaking with senior management, product/business stakeholders and developers
  • Ability to work in a multi-geographic team environment
  • Ability to work and lead in a highly agile team environment
  • Strong experience of operating in a quickly changing environment and driving technological innovation to meet business requirements.

Desired Skills/Experience Required:

  • Knowledge of financial markets & products
  • Knowledge and practical professional experience in software development in Java, .Net or similar
  • Excellent knowledge of software development tools and methodologies
  • Knowledge about API design standards, patterns and best-practices
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in API security standards and implementation (Oauth, OpenId)
  • Experience with major cloud providers such as AWS, Google Cloud or Azure
  • Inclination towards automation, unit tests, integration tests, agile practices
