About The Role

We're hiring a Senior Device Processing Engineer to lead the development and optimisation of fabrication processes for atomic‑scale quantum devices. This is a broad, hands‑on senior role spanning the full process flow, with responsibility for refining complex techniques, resolving fabrication challenges, and developing new proof‑of‑concept processes to support SQC's roadmap toward utility‑scale logical quantum computing.

You'll work alongside global experts at SQC and UNSW Sydney to fabricate and characterise silicon‑based quantum devices in our cleanroom, operating at the intersection of process science and production‑grade discipline.

Reporting to the Quantum Device Fabrication and Integration Team Lead, you'll work closely with cleanroom managers, scientists, and engineers to ensure high device yield, reproducibility, and operational continuity across fabrication workflows.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead the optimisation of semiconductor fabrication processes across the full flow (lithography, etching, deposition, packaging) to improve performance and reproducibility
  • Develop new fabrication techniques to support the scaling of quantum architectures
  • Perform advanced device processing, with electron beam lithography as a core daily tool
  • Conduct detailed root cause analysis and resolve complex fabrication issues
  • Maintain cleanroom equipment and infrastructure
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers and researchers
  • Contribute to documentation, process control discipline, and safety procedures

Your Experience

Essential

  • Master's or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Nanotechnology, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years' hands‑on experience in cleanroom semiconductor fabrication
  • Demonstrated hands‑on expertise in electron beam lithography
  • Strong experience across adjacent nanoscale processes (etching, deposition, materials integration)
  • Proven ability to optimise and troubleshoot fabrication processes and equipment
  • Track record of independently developing, documenting, and transferring fabrication recipes
  • Demonstrated leadership in a collaborative technical environment

Highly regarded

  • Experience operating in a commercial fab, foundry, or production‑oriented research consortium
  • Exposure to formal process control, yield tracking, or production discipline beyond pure academic research
  • Familiarity with quantum device fabrication or other ultra‑low‑defect process environments

Please note

This position may require access to export‑controlled information (ECI) subject to EAR and ITAR. Final employment decision is contingent upon satisfactory completion of export control screenings and obtaining any necessary export licenses or approvals, based on nationality, citizenship, and other factors considered by applicable export control regulations.
