Job Summary

AECOM’s Geoscience and Remediation Services (GRS) Workgroup has an exciting opportunity for an experienced hydrogeologist to join our highly regarded Environment team in Melbourne.

As a Director within the Environmental team, you will play a key role in leading and inspiring our teams, enhancing client relationships and promoting technical excellence whilst maintaining a strong focus on identifying and developing new business initiatives at a strategic state and national level.

This role will give you the opportunity to work with, provide leadership and help to develop a dedicated team of Hydrogeologists, Geoscientists and other environmental professionals on a diverse range of projects for clients across oil and gas, mining, and government. Your time will be primarily in the office, allowing for technical hydrogeological work, client liaison, and project management and delivery.

Some of your responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Providing leadership to the hydrogeologists within the Melbourne GRS team.

  • Opportunities to take on national coordination roles for groundwater technical practices

  • Preparing factual and interpretative hydrogeological reports

  • Developing conceptual groundwater models and working with groundwater and geochemical modellers

  • Providing hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical technical support on mining and contaminated land projects

  • Undertaking groundwater technical studies for Environment Effects Statements (EES)

  • Designing and advising on field programs, including monitoring and water supply bore installation, groundwater monitoring events, downhole geophysics, and aquifer testing

  • Project management and proposal preparation of hydrogeological investigations

  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients to enhance client retention and growth

  • Managing budgets and championing health and safety

  • Supervising, providing safety and technical leadership, and mentoring junior staff.

Minimum Requirements

Ideally, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role

  • Technical and team leadership abilities

  • Strength in either (or both) physical hydrogeology or hydrogeochemistry

  • Previous experience in complex hydrogeological analysis, modelling and problem solving

  • Mining and/or contaminated land assessment experience

  • Demonstrated experience working in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment

  • Demonstrated experience in project management on hydrogeological projects

  • Good communication and management skills, including the ability to manage your own responsibilities and to effectively work with coworkers, subcontractors, and clients

  • Experience in environmental, health and safety management and a commitment to ensuring that whatever works you're undertaking are conducted safety and without risk to humans or the environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification(s) in geoscience or a related discipline – essential

  • Post graduate qualification – highly regarded

  • Experience with industry standard software packages including ArcGIS, AQTESolv, PHREEQC, or similar – highly regarded.
