We are offering a doctoral thesis in the field of trapped-ion quantum computing (TIQC). As part of our growing TIQC-team, you will develop and realize concepts for ion traps with integrated optical components. In collaboration with our research partners at Joanneum Research, you will furthermore support the fabrication and integration of ion trap modules at Infineon's fabrication facilities. After successful fabrication, you will employ your devices for quantum optics experiments at the world-leading quantum optics laboratory at the University of Innsbruck. The results of your thesis will accelerate our development of reliable medium-scale TIQC devices and therefore provide a substantial boost towards useful applications with economic impact.

The industrial doctorate at Infineon: Pursue a doctoral degree at a university and gain professional experience simultaneously - an ideal start for your career. The tasks within the thesis will consist of:

  • Design, simulation and fabrication of medium-scale ion trap chips

  • Understanding the main fields of improvement of trapped-ion quantum computing, with emphasis on the aspects of architectural progress (confinement, scaling, shuttling, etc.) and integrated functionality (cryogenic optics and electronics)

  • Supporting the quality and reliability of Infineon ion traps by defining control concepts for inline process control, device screening and component verification

  • Demonstration of quantum computing operations with trapped ions

Start: 01.05.2021 (or later)
Full-time employment: 38.5 hrs/week
Duration: 3 years

The thesis will be written in cooperation with our academic partners at the University of Innsbruck and TU Graz.
