Drill & Blast Engineer - Tropicana Gold Mine

After an impressive debut in 2013, the Tropicana gold mine has consistently achieved or beaten performance targets. Owned by AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd (70% and manager) and Independence Group NL (30%), this large-scale, modern gold operation has been one of the most significant Australian gold discoveries of the last decade.

Along with continued investment and focus on our open pit mining, Tropicana has also recently commenced underground operations at Boston Shaker.

We are now seeking a Drill & Blast Engineer to join our Underground Mining team based at the Tropicana Gold Mine.

Accountable to the Alternate Underground Manager, and working in the Tropicana Mining Alliance, this role is accountable for maintaining an adequate supply of broken ore stocks by producing drill designs and blast plans.  This permanent role is FIFO 8/6 from Perth and offers an attractive salary package and benefits including private health insurance.

The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:

• Be an active safety leader in line with the companies values, policies and procedures
• Design of longhole drill plans
• Preparation of blast plans
• Design of raisebore holes
• Be a leader of the Critical Risk Controls
• Ability to support day to day mining operations with drill and blast design and scheduling
• Preparation of weekly mining plans

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A tertiary Mining Engineering Qualification
• Experience in underground mine design software (Deswik)
• Experience with electronic blasting systems (SmartShot)
• Practical underground mining experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience with Microsoft Office software
• Existing and ongoing Permanent work rights in Australia (Mandatory)
• Current “C” class drivers licence (Manual)
• Hold a valid WA Dangerous Goods Security Card
• A National Police Clearance
