Who We Are…

McWane Inc. has a newly created division, McWane Plant and Industrial (MPI). This new division, based in Birmingham, AL, combines all Plant and Industrial Products in a single customer-focused package. We offer comprehensive solutions through an experienced team of professionals specifically focused on these two special markets. Our Mission is to be the Plant and Industrial supplier who is “easiest to do business with”. We will make it easier to engineer, specify, and order components for plants. We will provide greater support for smoother delivery, cost-effective installation, and start-up. Most importantly, we will build strong relationships with design engineers, contractors, plant operations teams and project owners to assure we are their first-choice supplier for both new construction and future upgrades. Position Summary

The EHS Director is responsible for managing all aspects of environmental, health and safety programs and systems for all MPI locations. This includes health and safety and environmental compliance implementation of the McWane EHS Management System and participation in program development and continuous improvement. This position will report to the General Manager and will rely heavily on a team of EHS professionals located at MPI facilities across the country.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure the implementation of Corporate EHS strategies/programs/initiatives for MPI.
  • Collaborate with other managers to drive team member engagement and ownership of EHS.
  • Develop compliance strategy(s) to meet all applicable Local, State and Federal regulations.
  • Ensure that required inspections and recordkeeping associated with regulatory and internal requirements are completed in a timely manner.
  • Manage, support, and develop a team of EHS professionals across multiple locations. This includes providing coaching and training, setting goals, evaluating performance, planning staff assignments and development, and making and approving personnel management decisions (e.g. recruitment, promotions, terminations, and salary changes).
  • Report on progress, identify areas of potential improvement in EHS programs, develop and implement state of the art solutions to reduce risks or eliminate concerns.
  • Drives continuous improvement using tools and activities, including self-assessments and audit processes; incident/near miss investigations; metrics and targets (leading and lagging indicators); and periodic reviews of performance, culture, and talent.
  • Direct the use and implementation of IT software technologies to facilitate effective EHS programs.
  • Forge and maintain effective relationships throughout the Corporate and Operations’ management and team member ranks.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety, or related field from accredited college/university.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant experience, preferably in heavy industrial manufacturing.
  • Minimum five (5) years of leading EHS teams (multi state and/or facility).
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety (OSHA) and environmental (EPA and state) regulations, policies and interpretations.
  • Must possess proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and some familiarity with ERP and database systems.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize important tasks.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).


  • Standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting are some of the physical requirements.
  • Must be able to meet and adhere to physical requirements included in traveling to various MPI locations with appropriate PPE (steel toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection and mask).
  • Will be required to work in the following conditions: heat, cold, noise, and vibration. Must be able to work in dust and fumes.
  • Must have valid driver license and be eligible for auto insurance coverage.
  • Travel (air/car) based on business needs.
