The primary focus will be working with application teams, architecture, and business partners to develop plans and business cases for moving existing and building new workloads in the cloud. Position Overview

The Cloud Engagement Manager has overall accountability for building and managing the pipeline of the work that the Cloud team are responsible for delivering. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with application teams, architects, and business partners on educating the requestors on the cloud engagement model for consuming cloud services. They will work with these teams to understand and define requirements, guide them through the Cloud governance processes, and ensure that the Cloud team are resource plans are aligned to delivery commitments. You will also work in conjunction with the Cloud Centre of Excellence, the cloud platform operations team, cloud engineering, cloud migration partners, and application development teams.

Qualified individuals will:

  • Evolve the centralized cloud engagement process for managing all change demand into the Aviva Canada Cloud Team
  • Working with other areas of the business, product development, service delivery and other internal Aviva teams, the candidate will be expected to own the cloud engagement ensuring project demands are understood and implemented to meet Aviva strategic goals.
  • Develop and maintain a toolkit that allows program owners to develop strategies and plans for cloud, including stakeholder assessment, communications, leadership alignment, organization transition, change readiness, capability transfer, and end-user training
  • Build a tracking system that enables visibility across all initiatives being supported by the Cloud Team
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to obtain and translate requirements into technical implementations, and articulate any required platform enhancements to the Global Cloud Platform team
  • Support the development of business cases relating to migration of application workloads to cloud, including the build out of estimates for projects with cloud demands
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Be a self-starter who can also manage his/her own workload
  • Work within the guidelines stated in Aviva’s Global IT Security mandatory controls
  • Be comfortable in a high-pressured environment and will need to own/shape standards, processes, and documentation by working with our development community and design/architecture teams
  • Thrive in a high-growth environment undergoing a major transformation
  • Research emerging technologies and invests time in relevant professional courses/conferences to maintain the currency of skillset

The Person (the “Who”)

Experience:

  • Bachelors or Background in Engineering or Technical field.
  • Over 8 years of IT experience with progressively increasing responsibility, with at least 3 years related experience working with public cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience delivering services that meet the business needs and are delivered in accordance with agreed upon business requirements, and managing the service lifecycle
  • Experience with agile and/or lean start-up type methodologies would be beneficial
  • Experience in working with multi sourced operating models and teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management and political awareness

Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of the unique requirements for enterprise and commercial customer use of public cloud, and hybrid cloud
  • Understanding of compute, storage, and data centre technologies and emerging trends in cloud computing and storage
  • Knowledge of key technology stacks, such as VMWare, Azure, AWS and Docker (preferred)
  • Understanding of networking technologies and emerging trends in networking (preferred)
  • Knowledge of service desk tools and change management
  • Grasp of current and emerging technologies and trends, with the ability to rapidly assess and apply new and emerging technologies
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge and a proven record of success leading and collaborating with middle and senior management on client-facing business development, engagement delivery, practice development and thought leadership engagements
  • Demonstrated leadership with large scale infrastructure and transformation deliveries
  • An ability to inspire individuals and teams to change and improve
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders in the organization in both IT and the business
  • Ability to define and negotiate priorities amongst stakeholders ensuring successful delivery on commitments made
  • Knowledge of key Cloud Terminology and Technology constructs (preferred)
  • Understanding of networking technologies and emerging trends in networking (preferred)
  • Knowledge in collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence, MS Teams preferred, and knowledge of DevOps tool chain will be an asset
  • A high degree of competency with MS PowerPoint and other Office tools
  • Agile experience or training would be an asset
