Engineering Project Manager

Job Summary:

The Project Manager is responsible for the management of projects under a value of $10m in the Growth and Emerging Markets North Region. The types of projects in the scope of this role include data centre infrastructure upgrades and expansion, end of life equipment due for replacement, global and EMEA project initiatives that have a requirement for co-ordination of resources, management and adherence to strict budgets. Close cooperation and communication with stakeholders at both a country, regional and global level is a key part of the role. Planning, monitoring and management of multiple projects through the complete lifecycle is a key requirement. In the process of this, clearly identifying scope, securing resources and funding for projects is a requirement. Identifying risk and issues at an early stage and communicating these to stakeholders/sponsors is important to the success of projects along with robust change management methodologies. 

Responsibilities

Program Management
Manages a number of programs/projects within the Growth and Emerging Markets North region – focussed but not limited to one country

  • Works with numerous stakeholders including other GEM-N Project Managers,  Regional and Global Initiative owners, in-country Operations Leads, Customer Operations and TFM teams. Effectively communicates with all parties in a timely manner.
  • Applies a range of approaches to planning and gathering information in which to develop/facilitate/lead more complex business cases, plans and schedules
  • Participates in contractor interviews and evaluation including developing tender design packages /contractor selection
  • Liaises with local and regional operations finance business partners for cost management.
  • Operates in unison with design and construction team, identifying dependencies  between departments and ensuring clear and consistent communication
  • Develops close relationship with regional operations engineering team and knowing when to seek guidance with subject matter specialists
  • Liaise with design consultants, commissioning agents and quantity surveyors for cost assessments, management and acceptance of works
  • Uses a variety of communications methods to deliver information relevant to the audience and programs / projects needs
  • Identifies project risks and escalates quickly. Practices comprehensive risk assessment, analysis and mitigation methodologies during the project lifecycle
  • When faced with issues, applies lateral thinking and analyses available information to solve problems and engages with teams to resolve
  • Identifies clear project scope and uses change management methods to cater for scope adjustments
  • Problem solves resource/budgetary issues with internal teams and external suppliers to conclude disputes successfully and independently

Typical projects will include but not be limited to end-of-life equipment replacement, deferred and minor expansion projects (project value < 10M$), energy efficiency upgrades, BCM(Branch Circuit Power Monitoring), DCIM (Data Centre Infrastructure Management , SPOFs (Single Points and Failure), Remediation, Global Enablement initiatives, etc.


Project Management Guidance

Guides and mentors junior PMs, local teams (both Operations and Technical Facilities Management) in project practices and methods.

Implements functional PMO (Project Management Office) level concepts, standards, processes, training and tools, for continual improvement of the PPM maturity model

Reviews and documents lessons learned to drive PMO level project improvements

Acts as an escalation point to any Project Manager

Feeds back to the country Operations Leads about their Project Managers’ performance

Communication

Ensures consistent communication, updates and reports to local operations teams, regional initiative/project owners and global centres of excellence

Feeds the global program owners with status updates and reporting for the GEM North region

Keeps consistent communication with  general contractors, equipment specialists, design and cost management consultants during projects up to completion

Is the main point of contact for program/project updates for major capital upgrades, global projects and other regional initiatives

Knowledge and Experience

Proven experience of program / project management, ideally in the data centre, alternatively in mission critical, Pharmaceutical, Semi-conductor, IT sectors

Project management certification(s)

Full mastery of standardized program / project management tools and templates

Extensive knowledge of the processes, systems that underpin the data centre business

Skills and Attributes

Competent in the use of planning tools, considers and develops cross functional plans

Effectively communicates progress of programs / projects

Demonstrates influencing skills to achieve solutions and dealing with challenging stakeholder situations

Financial acumen, ability to connect program objectives to financial results, fluent with project budget management

Fluent English, both written and speech is mandatory
