Job Title: Field Service Technician

Business Unit - M & M (part of CAD)

Location: - Johannesburg, South Africa

Reports to: - Service Manager – Africa

Band: - 4 (Professional)


  • Carry out field installation, commissioning, repair and calibration of all past and present Thermo Fisher Scientific equipment and systems in any location both within and outside of South Africa
  • Carry out assembly work in the Production Department for all types of equipment including testing, quality control, software programming, pre-calibration and electrical check out of control panels when not busy with field service work or paper work to complete a job.(Datasheets, Expenses)
  • On site and in-house training of customers in the use and operation of Thermo Fisher Scientific equipment and systems
  • Telephonic assistance to customers with problems
  • In house repairs to electronic/ electrical equipment where possible.
  • Preparation for field work including, familiarization with the job, checking out/testing adequate spares, liaising with the client
  • Promoting Thermo Fisher Scientific equipment whilst in the field and giving feedback to the Sales Department
  • Installing, including mechanical and electrical installation of all equipment sold by Thermo Fisher Scientific where qualified to do so
  • Repairing , including fault diagnosis, replacing ( down to components on occasion) equipment, re-programming and re-calibration
  • Completing adequate work reports and data sheets to enable timely invoicing of work
  • Ensuring company vehicle is maintained in good condition
  • Compliance with ISO 9000 and OSH 1801

Minimum Qualifications:

N3 Instrumentation/Electronics or Higher

Instrumentation Trade Test Passed (Mechanical) or N6 Electronics or Higher

Preferred Experience:

  • 3 Years Industrial Instrumentation
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Ability to problem solve and trouble shoot
  • Experience in fault finding on control panels
  • Knowledge of Industrial Instrumentation
  • Face: Face interaction with customers and excellent customer service skills
  • Willing to work when and wherever necessary in order to complete a job for a customers
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
