Finance Business Partner

Tokyo, Japan

Reporting to the Regional Finance Director APAC, the candidate for this role will provide financial analysis and insight to influence business leaders to take decisions and actions that drive the best possible financial outcomes in terms of growth in revenue and margin. The role requires excellent business and commercial skills and the ability to build confidence with business leaders in order to influence senior decision-makers.

You will support the business to drive and improve performance, work closely with different stakeholders such as with the commercial teams to understand the unit targets and strategies, with the Global Financial Controller and regional Control and Accounting team to ensure we have full understanding of the underlying performance of the business and all variances and with the business to facilitate the budgeting and forecasting process.

Key Outcomes:

  • You will have the overall accountability of understanding revenue, gross margins and cost drivers to aid decision-makers in improving revenue, gross margins and profitability on a customer, product or service (e.g. resource allocation).
  • Partner with the business to set KPI’s for bonus and commission schemes and to model the possible outcomes to ensure affordability and accurate forecasting, and the subsequent measurement of achievement against agreed KPI’s.
  • Oversee trend and variance analysis and explain commercial impacts to the business.
  • Drive commercial awareness across the business by providing trend-based insights and training.
  • Develop robust business plans to support significant business capital expenditure proposals e.g. new technical platforms, new offer and / or panel development.
  • Support with sales management, pricing support and negotiation and provide commercial approvals for new deals.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, evaluate sales pipeline, and monitor project performance, review commercial elements in MSAs etc. as needed.

Key Capabilities:

  • The candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with at least 10 years of relevant experience, working in a similar industry or a project based organisation with a complex, matrix environment.
  • Sound knowledge of revenue and cost drivers, as well as resource allocation / utilisation drivers.
  • Possess a commercial mind set / business orientation along with gravitas, and relationship-building skills needed to build rapport and influence senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to take informed risks, is accountable, delivers on promises and follows through on commitments even in challenging circumstances.
