About the Position

Our client is a diversified company with established and new interests across a variety of market segments. Currently they are a leading manufacturer of wax based personal care and specialised industrial solutions for the South African and global markets. They research and develop, manufacture and supply raw materials that are used in a variety of personal care and industrial applications. Some of these products and solutions are consumed by the world's leading personal care brands.

Our client seeks to employ a Financial Manager within the Finance Department, who will be responsible for managing the Company Finances and ensuring that internal controls are in place. Suitable candidates must have manufacturing sector experience.

The successful candidate will possess a strong business sense and demonstrated ability to analyse every day financial activities and subsequently provide advice and guidance to Top Management on future financial plans.

The goal is to enable the company's leaders to make sound business decisions and meet the company's objectives.


  • Prepare monthly management reports for submission to the Management Team which include
  • Actual expenditure to budget
  • Actual Cash flow against projections
  • Actual income against sales projections
  • Overall financial standing of the company
  • Actual performance compared to business plans
  • Recommend corrective action to management where discrepancies in projections were identified.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting presented to the Management Team and the board of Directors
  • Co-ordinate and compile company budget in collaboration with internal departments
  • Oversee operations and staff in the Finance Department, set goals and objectives, and design a framework for these to be met.
  • Preparation of the annual financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Managing accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Management of fixed asset register
  • Ensure that all balance sheet reconciliations are produced on an accurate and timely basis to include bank reconciliations, debtors, creditors and inter-company account.
  • Review all the general ledger accounts and ensure all the necessary journals are posted.
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to financial policies, procedures and systems across all teams.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements relating to financial control, financial management and accounting.
  • Advising on investment activities and provide strategies that the company should take.
  • Maintaining the financial health of the organization.
  • Analyse costs, pricing, variable contributions, sales results and the company's actual performance compared to the business plans.
  • Conduct reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Develop trends and projections for the company finances.
  • Liaise and interact with banks, internal and external auditors to ensure that appropriate monitoring of company finances is maintained
  • Correspond with various departments, discussing company plans and agreeing on future paths to be taken.
  • Lead on tax planning, including VAT related matters.
  • Maintain current standing with all mandated local tax, benefits registration and requirements, including submissions of payments and reports (SARS).
  • Perform the monthly reconciliation and annual submission of VAT, PAYE, Employment Equity, Skills Reports and Workmen Compensation returns
  • Bachelor's Degree in finance or accounting related field;
  • 7+ years post article experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience as a Financial Manager and a Cost & Management Account
  • Previous financial and costing experience;
  • Hyperion financial management (preferable);
  • AGA, CIMA or similar qualification advantageous
  • Strong accounting and financial skills;
  • Good tax knowledge will be advantageous;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work with all levels of diverse staff;
  • Ability to work under pressure , independently and as a part of a team;
  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical analytical ability ;
  • Advanced Ms Excel , Office 365 and ERP skills
  • Proven track record in leading and building high-performance teams.
