What we’re doing
The Senior Financial Reporting Accountant sits within the Finance and Business Services Group, headed up by the Chief Financial Officer. The Finance and Business Services team, or FaBS as we like to call them, is the engine room of the REA Group. The team is comprised of Finance, Risk, Procurement, Pricing, Contracts, Customer Collections, Payments, Facilities Management and our Customer and Business Systems IT development teams.
The financial reporting team is responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of the financials for each of the businesses within the REA Group. The team’s purpose is to provide reliable, relevant and efficient reporting in accordance with IFRS standards as well as consideration of US GAAP implications. The teams are accountable for, and assist in, the management of financial, tax and compliance reporting obligations as well as supporting the growth of the business by advising on strategic initiatives.
The Senior Group Financial Reporting Accountant is responsible for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of REA Group’s consolidated accounts and the financial reporting requirements for News Ltd and management reporting where required. The Senior Financial Reporting Accountant also provides support and guidance to the finance teams within each of the countries focusing on group reporting, process improvement and efficiencies.
The Financial Reporting team advises and supports the wider business and subsidiaries on implementation of new accounting standards, significant business transactions, due diligence projects and M&A transactions.
Analysis and preparation of consolidation monthly financial reports with associated commentaries
Assist with the preparation of Investor Presentation and Group’s Financial statements
Analysis and review of subsidiary monthly reporting
Ensuring compliance in accordance with IFRS and accounting standards, ASX listing rules and Corporations Law
Review of existing reporting processes and controls to streamline reporting and realise efficiencies
Assist with audit requirements
Liaise with country finance teams to review monthly results, understand business and economic conditions to report to key stakeholders
Review balance sheet reconciliations on a quarterly basis for any issues and compliance with Group policies
Identify improvements/efficiencies for country finance teams monthly reporting
Working collaboratively within the Financial Reporting team to perform the following:
Responsible for the preparation and analysis of monthly and quarterly reporting to major shareholder, News Limited.
Assist with the reporting of annual budgets and monthly forecasts
Ensuring accounting policies are in accordance with US GAAP
Ensuring Sarbanes Oxley controls for US reporting regulations are operating effectively and always met without exception
Assist with strategic projects, divestments and M&A procedures utilising financial acumen and technical expertise to endure best outcome for the Group
Strong project management skills to efficiently ensure monthly reporting requirements (both internal and external) are well planned and executed
Adopt a whole business perspective when solving issues
Promote REA values and encourage teamwork through stakeholder collaboration
Work collaboratively within the team to share and obtain knowledge
Ensure team members are compliant with company policies/procedures and adhere to the REA values
Who we’re looking for
Tertiary qualifications or equivalent
CA or CPA
Relevant industry experience
Experience in the production of financial statements for ASX listed companies either via big 4 accounting firm or industry
AIFRS technical accounting knowledge
Experience in US GAAP reporting of entities
Knowledge of US GAAP and AIFRS accounting and disclosure differences
Experience in assessment and testing of Sarbanes Oxley attestation requirements
Intermediate and above Excel experience
