In order to consolidate our business and continue our successful journey, our Functional Safety Engineering Team under Energy and Power Technologies is looking for a new colleague as a
Functional Safety Engineer Autonomous Systems (all genders)
After your onboarding alongside an experienced colleague, you will
Determine project scope, develop a preliminary plan of investigation and determine the project specifications such as cost, time and testing requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data and product construction; projects may include travel to conduct audits or witness tests at client sites
Assess safety processes and related safety management processes for clients seeking to compliance to standards in functional safety and related fields, including ISO 26262, IEC 61508, ISO 21448, UL 4600, IEC/EN 62061, ISO 13849, ISO 61511, and other similar standards relevant to systems and software engineering.
Communicate with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements per applicable standards, convey project cost and negotiate completion date, as well as client input delivery requirements
Establish appropriate evaluation and audit programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements
Examine work products for compliance with UL requirements and notify client of any areas in which the product or process is not in compliance or of any changes in project scope or specifications.
Coordinate laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of laboratory staff and engineering assistants as well as establishing completion dates
Communicate project status and results to clients through frequent contact reports
Assist in the development of UL special requirements and improvement of evaluation tools
Represent UL at industry related events (seminars and trade shows) and perform training for clients regarding best practices of the applicable standards
University Degree in Electrical- or Automotive Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology or Physics
4+ years of experience in the area of Functional Safety, Autonomous Systems, Safety of the Intended Function (SOTIF), Testing and Certification, Research and Development or similar
Good knowledge of Standards Conformity applicable to Functional Safety of electrical/ electronical as well as programmable systems according to IEC 61508, IEC 61511, IEC 61800-5-2, IEC 62061, ISO 13849-1, ISO 26262, IEC 60730-1, EN50126/-128/-129; knowledge of ISO 10218, ISO 13482 and UL 991/UL 1998 is a plus
Experience working with either (or both) UL 4600 or ISO 21448 standards is highly preferred; knowledge of robotics, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, as well as embedded software are a plus
Ability to understand and interpret safety requirements in order to devise an implementation strategy and develops functional design specifications based on those requirements
Technical knowledge and understanding of functional safety practices and principles of functional safety assurance, hazard & risk assessment
Experience in data science and data pipeline development for the training and evaluation of artificial intelligence algorithms; and for the verification & validation of such algorithms.
Strong knowledge of scenario definition and development for the evaluation and specification of autonomous systems (for example using languages like scenario description language and similar frameworks)
Experience in advanced & emerging software Architectures such as Over the Air (OTA) updates, service-oriented architectures (SOA), and AutosarTM
Vehicle-level verification and validation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous systems using track testing, field testing, and systems integration test for integrated sensing systems
Verification and Validation of autonomous systems including the use of autonomous vehicle scenario simulation
Machine Learning algorithms for autonomous application, including the specification, verification and validation of such algorithms o Human factors expertise and experience in HMI evaluation for SAE level 2 and level 3 autonomous systems
General experience with ADAS and Autonomous vehicle systems and their relevant safety aspects
Experience in project- and stakeholder management as well as in developing project-handling concepts
Very good communication skills in English are mandatory; German, French and other languages are a plus
Ability to work in an international, fast-paced environment and willingness to travel
