Our City Parks team is looking for a self-motivated and hardworking individual to fill the permanent full-time position of General Hand as well as a pool of available candidates available to fill a pool of casual position available at the moment.  In these positions your expertise and experience in horticulture will require you to undertake duties in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner and to agreed quality standards. The vacancies may be in garden maintenance, irrigation, mowing, bushland conservation and landscape construction.

You will be responsible for:

• Assisting with garden maintenance including mulching, planting and pruning of vegetated areas
• Mowing including operation of ride-on mowers, edgers blowers and brush cutters
• Operating tractor for general activities such as slashing and turf renovations
• Monitoring turf and garden water needs and highlighting reticulation issues
• Weed management including application of herbicides and manual weed removal
• General litter collection, clean up and blowing down of paved surfaces
• Installation of vertical pine pole bollards and other fencing
• Applying wetting agents and fertilizers to turf and garden areas
• Tree planting
• Traffic management

To be successful, you will have:

• A current unrestricted ‘MR’ class drivers licence
• Certificate II in Horticulture
• Experience in parks and gardens maintenance
• Current certificate in Basic Worksite Traffic Management
• Current White Card
• Knowledge of safe operation of ride-on mowers, brushcutters and other gardening tools
• Good communication and customer service skills
• A willingness to work within a team
• Certificate III in Horticulture (desirable)
• Front End Loader Ticket (desirable)
• Chainsaw ticket (desirable)
• Basic first aid (desirable)

This OSE Level 2 full time permanent position attracts a salary range of $58,344 to $59,887 gross per annum dependent on qualifications and experience with the option to work a 9-day fortnight. The casual positions attract an hourly rate of $35.43 per hour, inclusive of 20% casual loading.
