About This Opportunity

South Shore Regional Hospital (SSRH) in Bridgewater which serves Lunenburg and Queens Counties, has an opportunity for a 0.5 FTE General Practitioner in Oncology to care for cancer patients on the South Shore in the Oncology Unit.  SSRH Oncology Unit serves the growing number of patients accessing chemotherapy services and provides  comfortable and private area for patients.  Oncology unit, features a satellite pharmacy for preparation of drugs used in chemotherapy which allows an opportunity for cancer patients to receive an unprecedented level of pharmacy involvement in education and treatment.  The unit has excellent nursing and specialist support..  This position is paired with a 0.5 FTE family medicine practice, however the positions can be divided if the candidate prefers.  This position is available immediately.

Responsibilities
  • providing outpatient clinical services pertinent to the specialty of General Practitioner Oncology
  • ensure the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness
  • be accountable for appropriate workload and practice
  • continuum of patient care with health care providers within your practice and/or community
  • provide care and coordination of community-based care, and secondary and tertiary level heath care
  • build to capacity within the first two years
  • operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority
  • work toward same day or next day access for the practice population
  • work in collaboration with other team members in the practice to best suit the community’s health needs
  • participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities
  • utilize an electronic medical record (EMR) and record all relevant patient details in a provincially approved EMR which is accessible to all collaborating team members
Expected Hours
  • permanent part-time hours (0.5 FTE) in General Practice Oncology (GPO)
  • permanent part-time hours (0.5 FTE) in Famly Medicine practice
  • GPO patient load is variable
Qualifications
  • successful completion of training in Oncology as determined via partnership with Cancer Care Nova Scotia.
  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the (CPSNS)  
  • all family physicians must be eligible for certification with the   (CFPC)
  • membership with the (CMPA)
  • (ACLS)
  • (BCLS)
  • (PALS)
