Position Summary

The current portfolio of this position is the FPH (Fine Precipitated Hydrate) business/product lines. This role exist to direct and lead the product line strategy to maximize sales, and achieving optimum asset utilization and product mix, operation efficiencies, and gross margin. Manage the critical link of the decision-making process between the Commercial, Operations, R&D, Regulatory Affairs and Engineering/Technology departments. Develop and lead growth strategies for new products and markets. This position will be based in Bergheim, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The main purpose of this role is to facilitate and support the Global Sales Team to successfully execute the defined business strategy and achieve sustainable and profitable growth in line with set business objectivesDevelopment of global and regional product line strategies to maximize Gross Margin by customer, region, plant and market segment. Complete understanding of manufacturing cost, production processes, competitive knowledge, and customer requirements to facilitate new product introductions, product line growth, and product rationalization. Responsible for 5-year POR for product lines, including volume, revenue and gross margin globally and by region.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Tactical Planning and Execution

  • Support Management in formulating, communicating, and implementing product line strategy
  • Monitor progress and revise business and tactical plans as necessary
  • For market segmentation is working closely with Marketing as the segmentation expert function  
  • Prepare business justification for required additional/new capacity as part of the 5 year POR, capital for new products, expansions, and product quality improvements

Pricing Strategy and Management

  • Manage price, volume, gross profit on a global and regional basis
  • Understand cost structure and manufacturing limitations
  • Develop and maintain wining value propositions in terms of Product positioning, segmentation, trade-up tactics and appropriate Sales tools to support the Sales team
  • Creates insight in profitability of products, markets and regions and defines strategies and tactics to improve profitability 

Product & Portfolio Management

  • Product line rationalization
  • Approve customer specific requests jointly with Sales
  • Prepare/coordinate communication to Sales and customers of manufacturing process changes
  • Approve/Reject requests for trials and requests for commercialization in cooperation with Sales
  • Coordinates new product trials and sample production through our plants. Helps assess manufacturing feasibility on new products.
  • Acts as a resource for sales in the preparation of forecasts and budgets. Provides the sales function with guidance regarding plant capacity and capability issues as well as the effects of product mix (product line rationalization) on plant utilization and profitability. 
  • Coordinates sales, operations, and research departments in developing, implementing, and reviewing new product specifications (product or packaging) so that they are in place before plant runs are made and that they are consistent with plant capabilities.

Asset Utilization and Optimization

  • Achieve high level of asset utilization
  • Optimize product mix and SKU’s
  • Identify available capacity and develop plans to strategically utilize it
  • Work with manufacturing and Technology team on projects and initiatives to reduce cost and improve efficiency

Market /Competitive Intelligence

  • Participate in trade shows and industry meetings
  • Track competitor capabilities, capacities, and new activities and communicate internally to Management and Sales
  • Provides M&A recommendations to the Senior Strategist and Management 
  • Serves as a member of cross-functional teams which assure the supply of raw materials to our plants, finished products to our customers, and the maximization of our profitability. Interfaces at many levels within and outside HEM to accomplish these goals.
  • BS degree in Engineering or Chemistry, MBA preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of product management, sales, or marketing experience in a chemical industry will be a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement business plans resulting in above average business performance.
  • Demonstrarated ability to be a self-starter and proven leadership skills to energize and engage a multi-functional global team of professionals.
  • Team player and able to influence and move projects through cross-functional groups to reach common goals in the absence of formal authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to work effectively across functional lines, to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to make consequential decisions
  • Must be proficient in Power Point and Excel
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills required
  • An attention to detail and appreciation of deadlines is essential
