About the Role
As the Head of Legal - Lending, you will form close working relationships across BOQ's executive leadership team and the Group more broadly, and will require strong advisory and stakeholder management skills.
Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, you will be responsible and accountable for the strategic management of all lending (including subsidiaries) legal matters for the BOQ group.
More specifically, the purpose of this role is to:
- Lead and direct a team of senior legal professionals both internally and externally who are focused on partnering with the business to achieve commercially driven solutions to legal matters associated with the Bank's primary business activity (lending);
- Manage and be fully accountable in relation to legal servicing of all lending divisions of the Bank (excluding certain regulatory and resolution advisory matters) including all legal requirements across BOQ's business divisions (BOQ Business Banking, Corporate Banking and Property Finance, Agribusiness, Retail as well as BOQ Finance and BOQ Specialist).
As the successful candidate, you will be an exceptional leader with the ability to think laterally around strategic issues, taking into account commercial outcomes and motivations in developing legal solutions.
It is essential that you have the ability to work, and lead a team, autonomously as well as a natural aptitude to inspire confidence and act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders in the business.
To be considered, you will have extensive experience in a senior legal role in-house and/or in private practice. A combination of both, as well as prior experience leading teams will be looked on preferably.
Expertise with all facets of banking & finance law including property finance, acquisition finance, asset finance and high value / high complexity corporate finance transactions is required.
